– BATTLE OF THE BEST –

Amayzine's nail polish contest

As you all know, we all enjoy a sip of nail polish. Every morning we faithfully start with a coat to remove the next morning and repeat the cycle again. This brought us to the following. A battle. Since we all want to go into the weekend with bare nails, the choice has fallen on four polishes. Dior, OPI, CHANEL, and Essie will compete against each other, and Liesbeth, May-Britt, our new beauty editor Coco and I have sacrificed ourselves to provide the nails with these colors.

Round 1

color and the name

Let's start with something easy. The color and the name. Now, OPI is quite a master at coming up with funny names, for example, this one is called Did You ‘ear About Van Gogh. Essie follows with Perennial Chic, although we found that a bit hard to remember. CHANEL and Dior are usually good in both color and name; they are extremely funky and capture the moment of the day. So, a fairly equal score at this moment.

ROUND 2

brush

The polishing process begins with evaluating the brush. Now, there has emerged a sort of division here, as Liesbeth and Coco have, I quote; “enormous nail surface,” and May and I are working with smaller nails. Thus, Dior has the most ideal brush with a wide surface and is therefore good for the large nail, while Essie works well on May's and my nails. OPI comes out on top in the test because it has a perfect brush and immediately takes the right amount for one nail. Well, who would have thought you could win on that, huh?

ROUND 3

holding mechanism

We didn't quite know what to call it, but it's just about the cap. What we prefer to hold. Essie turns out to be too short, OPI feels nice in the hand, Dior is a bit too small, and CHANEL is especially nice because of the ribbing. You can never slip, and thanks to the cap on the bottle itself, it’s just ultimate luxury.

ROUND 4

coverage

Since we are a bunch of impatient ladies, we don't want to wait for thirteen layers that then refuse to dry and thus cause immediate hassle. The coverage of Essie is ideal. There is a lot of polish on the brush, allowing you to provide a long nail with a nice color in one go. OPI too, and a layer is even already covering over a purple gel polish. You should know, Coco had her first day here and had her nails painted purple with glitter for the occasion, which is why she added a layer on top. Okay, side-step. Back to Dior and CHANEL. They have slightly less coverage and both require a second coat. However, the color becomes much prettier because of that.

ROUND 5

drying time

This is indeed a thing. We don't want to wait too long, but we also don't want bulging nail polish because it dries too quickly. Essie really dries after just a minute. Provided you have applied one layer, but that should be sufficient for a nice effect. OPI and CHANEL need a fan and a few minutes, while Dior does it within a few minutes.

ROUND 6

remover

This is also a point where people here are very critical. Since the nails are provided with a fresh layer every day, we need bottles full of remover. And those bottles must do their job, of course. CHANEL does not come off very easily. But well, that is a stunning color, so it can take a while. OPI and Essie come off very well.

Drumroll… Tadaaaaa…

Actually, we are very enthusiastic about all four. The colors are great, the coverage is fine, although there is still room for discussion about the holding mechanism. With a knife to the throat, we would declare OPI the winner because it has excelled in all areas.
