Nothing works as strongly on my memory as scents. With Elnett hairspray, I instantly find myself as a little girl at my grandmother's vanity, with French toast on Sunday mornings my mom in the kitchen, and when I smell lemongrass, I immediately feel like I'm in Thailand. This week, the Scandinavian brand La Bruket launched a whole lemongrass care line, so you understand: I didn't know how quickly I had to bike to the pop-up store to get my vacation-in-a-bottle. Once home, I got that reproachful look from my husband: ‘But darling, we already have 10 shower gels in the bathroom?’ he asked slightly cynically. ‘Yes, but this scent immediately reminds me of vacation... And this is still a lot cheaper than a ticket to Thailand, so actually, I've saved a vacation with this purchase.’ Women's logic, gotta love it.

Every year we promise ourselves to celebrate vacation in our own country more often. For the first time, we kept this promise this year, and believe me: a weekend spa or two days in the middle of the woods to recharge works very effectively, I can tell you! This weekend, a city trip to Rotterdam was on the agenda. We stayed at the beautiful nhow hotel designed (inside and out) by architect Rem Koolhaas. It's a good thing Jon and I don't have a fear of heights because we stayed on the 23rd floor! The view from our room over the Maas was truly a picture. In the evening, we only had to go down a few floors for a beautiful cocktail bar and dinner. Then, around 10 PM, we snuggled into bed and, for the first time in weeks, watched some TV. Did we really have to travel to Rotterdam for this? Maybe not, but otherwise, this relaxing evening would never have happened. So back quickly to really explore Rotterdam!
