Voor altijd 501
Memories often hang on to clothing items for me. You can call it a quirk or just think that I chose the right profession.
My youth is linked to a piece of clothing, the 501. Everyone had it. Among the boys, it was super cool and you could immediately see if they had nice butts. When my classmate Penelope wore it with her legs up to the second floor of the Sint Willibrord College and her tiny little butt, I stayed away from her. Especially when there were cute boys around her. I wasn't going to win that competition. Better to disappear and strike at another time.
I tried to emphasize my fashionable self by customizing my jeans. My girlfriend Susanne painted them with flowers and made holes in them. Later, someone once told me that she thought I was very poor because I rode an old Puch and wore torn and self-painted jeans. She was in shock when she came to my house and found a swimming pool and horses in the garden. Sorry sweetheart, that's called fashion.
She didn't quite get it. But Levi's understands it. Because while we might all be in love with the same jeans, we still want to emphasize ourselves in them. I've been living in my new 501 CT for a few weeks now, which fits a bit more relaxed than in the ’90s. It's a bit more boyfriend-ish and the wash is stunning. It's also so beautifully ripped, you can't achieve that yourself.
To stimulate your individuality, Levi's challenges you to customize your jeans. Cut off the legs and make a cool short out of it, stick fabric on the thigh put a piece on the back of your denim jacket, make a seam in the middle of the leg so you get a totally-now pleat or add a little hem for a shorter cut.
Of course, I had to make my pair unique as well. Even though it was already close to perfection. I took scissors to a scarf and sewed that fabric behind the holes for a nice and modest see-through effect. I used the rest of the scarf as a belt. Don't throw anything away and be frugal, you know me right?
