NINETIES RETURNS

– And so you see that in beauty again –

Last week I spoke to Tom Pecheux backstage at the Badgley Mischka show and he told me that the ‘90s are completely back. Not only in the modeling sphere, but also in terms of looks. It can be a bit more grungy, it can be a bit darker and exciting is also a word that fits in the list. So the ‘90s. Here are five things you need to know for your beauty look.

1. From Flawless to Matte
Although the flawless face is a huge trend and a nourishing day cream should not be missing, you swap that BB or CC for a matte foundation. It can all be a bit heavier. In fact, it can be completely camouflaged. The right color is very important, because it should not look like a mask, but a thicker application is fine.

2. Brow Up
We can leave the tweezers for now, because the full brow is still here to stay. Phew. They just don't need to be perfectly styled anymore. It can all be a bit more undone, a bit rougher. A stray hair here and there or an unbrushed tuft is not so bad.

3. Matte Lip
Red is still allowed, but it must be matte. It can be a bit more exciting and a shiny red lip quickly makes it too sexy. When you think of the '90s, think of a rougher lip color, not too dark, not too bright. Keep it exciting.

4. Wet Hair
Go to bed with wet hair. What you see a lot at shows now is the combination of perfect and undone and different textures. So go to sleep with freshly washed hair in, for example, a braid. Then it looks like you wake up after a night of dancing. You probably have a perfect imperfect wave. All you need to do is shake it out with your hands, maybe run a hairdryer through it for volume and add some powder.

5. Bobby Pins
Bobby pins are always damn handy. They are both very functional and very decorative. They are now used to secure hair and should really be seen. Think of it as an accessory.
