One of the most fun discoveries of last year is Sander, who does the PR and marketing for Harper’s Bazaar. A discovery for me, of course, Sander himself has been around for longer. But at the launch party of Harper’s Bazaar we were introduced to each other, after which many drinks followed, and since we crossed Paris together during Fashion Week last March, we are thick as thieves. From my own experience, I can tell you that it is never boring with Sander (the best man drinks and smokes possibly even more than I do), so it was about time to share his secret pleasures with the general public. Here we go.
What does no one expect from you?
“That I am actually really shy. I would dare to jump on Beatrix's lap, but when a potential flame is nearby, I completely shut down. Then I am brutally short and decide to save myself from the awkward situation by running away like crazy. I think many men think I am an arrogant jerk because of this.”
What is your biggest pointless irritation?
“Being late. You will hear this one more often, but I take it (a bit too) seriously. I have a 10-minute rule, and after that, I leave. Not everyone is happy about this, but hey, Capricorn right.”
Do you have an obsession?
“I check my work email obsessively.”
Do you have an embarrassing hobby?
“What’s more embarrassing is that I don’t have any hobbies these days. My ELLE colleague Malu de Bont regularly tries to persuade me to join for “a fun game of basketball,” but I haven’t given in to that yet.”
Do you have a celebrity crush?
“Irene Moors. I have been madly in love with this lady since Telekids, and there is no end in sight.”
Which television program always makes you cry?
“Are there people who always cry at TV shows?”
Do you have a hidden talent?
“Certainly. I can sing opera. Just ask my Bazaar and ELLE colleagues.”
