As you know, I was in New York last week, and one of the things I did there was meet up with top model Cato van Ee. Cato and I grew up in the same city and share a thousand mutual friends, but strangely enough, we had never really met each other. Until now, and I immediately asked her about all her guilty pleasures. Here they come.
What song on your iPod should no one see?
“Well, I'm not like that, everyone can always know everything about me. But I am still a huge Backstreet Boys fan and I really love I Want It That Way. If I get the chance, I definitely want to attend a concert again.”
What do you secretly do when you're home alone?
“Well, when I'm home alone, I usually walk around naked, although I can do that just fine when my housemates are around too. I do take into account that if there are other people, I put something on, but honestly, I don't care much and I love walking around completely oiled up in my birthday suit.”
What TV show do you secretly watch?
“I actually don't watch television. Yes, I'm addicted to Expeditie Robinson, but I don't think I need to be ashamed of that, right? I really love those good old romantic movies. Just last Saturday, I watched Sleepless in Seattle with my cousins after going out. I think I'm more into movies, I don't really watch series. I also recently watched Clueless, delightful.’
Secret crush?
“On a person? Well, someone I really find a VERY nice man is Bill Murray, although I wouldn't really fall in love with him or jump on him quickly. But I would love to have dinner with him, what a lovely guy. His sense of humor, but also the way he looks out of his eyes, I really find delightful, as if he's always on the lookout for trouble. Someone I would definitely go for is Jake Gyllenhaal. Just so you know, I can really find some men attractive.‘
Most expensive mis-sale?
“Isabel Marant boots, you know, the really high ones with fringe and a wedge heel. It's not really a bad purchase because I've worn them, but I'm just not really that type. I just thought: if I buy this, I'll be that girl, but I'm just not. They've been sitting in my closet for about three years now and I've worn them four times. So that's a few very expensive occasions.”
Biggest blunder?
“I had a casting for Victoria’s Secret somewhere at the end of last year. Not for the show, by the way. It said “come in a bra and a panty.” So I thought, okay, a bit strange but fine, I'll wear a bra and a panty. Once at the casting, I had to change and came out in a bra and a panty, literally a long black panty. But in English, that's just underwear, not tights. There I was in my panty. Thank goodness I was wearing underwear underneath. And I ended up working for them afterwards, so it turned out fine.”
What did you want to be when you were a child?
“When I was really young, around 4 or 5, I wanted to be a clown. Making people laugh, making them happy, it seemed great to me. Working a bit in the circus, traveling around, yes, it seemed like something I would enjoy. When you think about it, modeling is actually quite similar to working as a clown. Lots of makeup, a lot of traveling, entertaining people, ha, modeling is actually quite clownish.”
