Tess van Daelen (30) is a fashion journalist for various fashion magazines, manages the blog TESSTED.com and the career site wrist a watch from Shore. I have been following her on Instagram for some time and my favorites are the photos of her pug (besides cats, there is also plenty of room in my animal heart for pugs, you should know) and after all this time following, I was curious about what her non-Instagrammable life holds. Tess, take it away.

What is your weirdest trait?

“In other cities, I always have to do a handstand. It doesn't matter where or with whom I am. Los Angeles, Paris, The Hague, on a press trip, with family, and yes, even on a first date. No shame.”

Which song in your playlist cannot stand the light of day?

“Nigga als ik” adorns my Spotify favorites list along with countless other Dutch rap songs. The worst part is that as a tata and, mind you, a mother, I sing along to this kind of songs backwards. I know, nothing to be proud of.”

Do you have a catchphrase?

“I like to incorporate some street language into my daily vocabulary. Right now, everything that is good, beautiful, or tasty is ‘nice’ (just ask Ali B, he knows all about it too).”

What do others find very annoying about you?

“That I don’t pick up when they call me. I have an aversion to PR agencies that call back to see if I’m going to write something about their product. But also friends or parents who call unexpectedly in the middle of the day to chit-chat. Just a huge bite out of your workday, especially when you’re nicely engrossed in a text. That’s why I often don’t pick up. Hereby: sorry everyone.”

What is your biggest addiction?

“Pugs, or the most wonderful magical creatures. Since the arrival of my own miss Billie-Lou at the end of August this year, my addiction knows no bounds. Pug mugs, sweaters, baby onesies, paintings, bedding, and especially greeting cards with pugs; I want it all. Fortunately, everyone around me collects nicely too and I get tipped when pug trinkets are for sale again. And you should know that I am not a dog person at all, but pugs… they will always have a special place in my heart.”

What is your biggest pointless addiction?

“I absolutely must go through the entire series of celebrity news on the DailyMail site every morning. My day doesn’t start well without it. I click on every Beckham or Kardashian news item and in the absence of Hollywood A-listers, I just read the latest gossip from the British showbiz plebs. I don’t get any wiser from it, but it’s delicious to indulge in…”
