HIGHLIGHT OF AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK:

SUPERTRASH F/W ‘15

For days the question was on everyone's lips: “Are you going to the SuperTrash show on Saturday?” A week or so beforehand we received the paper invite at the office and little was said about the location. “We are going underground.” It was something at the Central Station in Amsterdam, something with a tunnel, something new, but what exactly, that was a secret. And so the buzz went into overdrive and it was SuperTrash high and SuperTrash low, until we saw on Saturday evening that Olcay was once again more than worth all the commotion beforehand. She took us to the new tunnel that runs under the Central Station and is not yet open to the public. Last year there were about 2000 people who received an invitation, this year that was scaled back to 400. The catwalk was bordered on one side by a tiled wall with Delft blue paintings, on the other side we were seated. No Supertrash show without a front row filled with celebrities, so Anna Drijver, Beertje van Beers, Kim van Kooten, Bridget Maasland, Fred van Leer, Quinty Trustfull, Winonah de Jong and Nadja Hüpscher took their places in the front row.

The theme of this collection was Modern Pioneers. “With this show, we celebrate that women are much stronger in groups. I am very annoyed by the individualistic way of life of this time, which I sometimes participate in myself.” Thus Olcay in an interview with NU.nl. The clothing was stronger and cleaner than usual, with fashionable power suits and many pieces with a high must-have factor. The jackets with capes are undoubtedly going to be the top pieces that will be sold out non-stop as soon as they hit the shelves. The models marched over the wide catwalk in formations of two and three, with a gaze into infinity and a rather complicated choreography to remember. The light, the music, everything complemented each other and made the whole thing so much more than just a fashion show. Olcay received the applause flanked by her direct team, as a statement to confront that individualistic way of life. As the first look comes by, the audience spontaneously starts cheering and clapping and let me tell you, that doesn’t happen often. There is such energy in the room that when the show is over, everyone is eager to head to the Art’otel across the street for the afterparty in Bar 5&33. The handsome men behind the bar tirelessly served gin tonics, vodka mixes, wine, and beer to the thirsty fashion crowd and DJs Andela & Caron played records that made everyone loosen up. At 03:00 I walk home somewhat unsteadily. It’s late, it’s cold, I’m wearing 12 centimeter gold Louboutins without tights or anything and the evening was well spent. But man, what a spectacle it was again, Olcay proves that everything she does, big or small, is always grand.
