I am really a huge stickler when it comes to muesli or cruesli. I know, that one in the purple package with a little man with white hair and a sort of cowboy hat on his head is really delicious, but it's also so tasty because it contains a ton of sugar and you have to be in the mood for that. Usually, after a bowl of that cruesli and yogurt, I'm hungry for something else or for another serving. No big deal of course, but I prefer to make my own granola. No added sugars or other crap. One scoop in your quark or yogurt, nice with some fruit and you can get through a whole morning. Much more nutritious, more filling, and even tastier. I'll give you my recipe. Make a nice batch and store it in a jar.
You will need:
The ingredients are for about 8 to 10 servings. You can buy everything at the health food store.
200 grams of oats
60 grams of chopped nuts Buy unroasted nuts that you like, place them on a wooden board and chop them finely. Decide for yourself what size you find nice. I usually don't make them too small because I like a bit of crunch.
40 grams of seeds and kernels (for example pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds)
2 handfuls of dried fruits (also cut these into small pieces)
2 handfuls of coconut nibs
4 tablespoons of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of agave syrup (optional)
1 tablespoon cinnamon
a pinch of salt
– Preheat the oven to 150 degrees
– Put all the ingredients in a bowl, except for the coconut oil, coconut nibs, and dried fruits.
– Let the coconut oil melt in a small pan. If you want a slightly sweeter granola, add a tablespoon of agave syrup.
– Mix the oil into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Toss everything well together. The best way to do this is with your (clean!) hands. It will get a bit sticky.
– Now spread the mix out over a baking sheet and put it in the oven for a quarter of an hour. Do check occasionally and stir if necessary. If you find it still a bit too pale, leave it a little longer, but usually, it goes quite quickly.
– Let the granola cool down completely and only then add the pieces of dried fruits and the coconut nibs. Only when everything is really, really cool can it go into the jar or a Tupperware container. That works too.
