I thought it would be fun to print the word ‘kale’ on a t-shirt. Green, kale, healthy, funny, yay. Until I got to the editorial office and the girls asked why on earth I was walking around with the word KA-LE. Pronounced in the Dutch way, of course. People, it's kale (pronounced: keel). Kale. Here in New York, where I am now, it's available on every street corner. In the form of a smoothie, chips, or salad, and I definitely use it at least twice a week in my kitchen. Just to summarize why kale is so good for you:

– It contains a ton of vitamin C (even more than an orange) and iron. We need that every day.

– Kale has a detox effect. It has a cleansing effect on your body. Handy after a night out. Trust me, throw a handful of kale together with some strawberries, a banana, blueberries, and coconut water in a blender. You gonna love it.

– Yes, it is also a great source of lutein and zeaxanthin. You might not know much about that (I had to Google it too), but those are antioxidants that are good for your eyes.

– There are amino acids in this farmer's green that make your brain very happy. Amino acids ensure that you function clearly and sharply.

– Kale is low in calories, but it is nutritious and filling (lots of fiber!).

– It keeps you slim, because kale gives your stomach and intestines a kick and keeps the entire digestive process running smoothly.

– And last but not least: kale is of course fat-free. Also nice.

So I say: everyone should eat kale. And you pronounce it as KEEL.
