Ring my doorbell with a basket full of delicious snacks, a bottle of wine, and a blanket in your hand. Take me on the back of your bike to the park or to the water for a picnic and I'm sold. Well, I don't know how many men in the world would do something so romantic, but suppose you (a man, that is) are reading this, then I'll give you tips for a delightful and original picnic that you can easily put together. And then you've made everything yourself, right? So not just bread with dips from a container and brie from the supermarket and so on. And I'll make sure there's not too much fuss with spills, complicated food, and cutting on the blanket. The only thing you need to do is really dive into the kitchen for a bit. And for the ladies, this might also be handy; maybe you want to surprise a friend or a boy. Pick a few ideas, I would say, put them in a basket, ring the bell, and steal a heart.
Prawns
At the fishmonger, you can often buy cooked and peeled large shrimp (or prawns). You don't have to do anything to them, and they are super tasty. Make a dip to go with them, for example, homemade lemon mayo. Here's an easy recipe. Put the mayo in a Tupperware container and then you can dip those shrimp in it together.
Chicken
At a poultry shop, you can buy chicken wings. They are super tasty cold and usually well-seasoned, so you don't necessarily need to make a sauce to go with them. Just make sure you have enough napkins because you really eat chicken wings with your hands.
Cheese
Go to a good cheese shop and let them inform you. Don't choose a huge stinker, because then your whole basket will smell right away, but with different cheeses, you can never go wrong. Wrap the cheeses in aluminum foil, because then you can use that as a sort of plate instead of the very thin cling film that usually surrounds them.
Baguette
If you're in the mood for bread, buy a fresh baguette from the baker. Don't cut it into pieces at home beforehand, because then it dries out quickly. You can just tear off pieces.
Dip
Maybe you're a little tired of chickpea hummus. In that case, I've made a delicious dip from peas. Something different.
Green
Of course, there should also be a bit of salad, but keep it nice and simple. It's often such a hassle eating large leaves of lettuce, so make a mix of tomato, cucumber, avocado, and basil. Drizzle that mix with good olive oil, a bit of balsamic, and salt and pepper. You can just pick this salad out of a bowl, handy right?
Sweet
Fruit is always a good idea. Make a nice fruit salad at home and put it in a plastic container with a lid (which you can throw away afterwards if necessary), and when you've cut the fruit, squeeze a bit of lemon juice over the salad, because then it won't brown so quickly. Keep the container in the fridge for as long as possible. By the way, a slice of this banana bread is also very tasty.
(Cold) wine
Last but not least. At a good wine shop, you can buy a kind of jacket that you first put in the freezer and then slide around the bottle. Then it stays nice and cold for a long time.
And then it's of course important to have a nice large blanket that can get a little dirty. Don't forget napkins, and plastic glasses are the most convenient because you can just throw them away afterwards, and I think that has a bit of a romantic touch. Saves hauling stuff home and thus doing the dishes. The same goes for plastic plates. Just take one sharp knife and two forks with you, so you can poke around a bit here and there.
Alright, I'm going to dive into the kitchen tomorrow and surprise someone.
