Okay, maybe not the perfect weather to pack a basket with snacks, wine, and a blanket, but you can save my tips for another time. Yes, today we are going to talk about picnicking. A packed cooler with sandwiches wrapped in foil and pre-sliced watermelon makes me a happy person. Even better is when the sandwiches are cut by someone else. My mother spread sourdough bread with cream cheese and slices of cucumber. Then she cut off the crusts. So fancy, so simple, but so delicious. You can actually make something delicious with those crusts a lovely bread bowl that I learned from my grandmother.
Alright, about nice picnic spots. Fun with friends or in case you want to surprise your boyfriend, but you can also just slide this under his nose.
Fill a basket with a blanket, a (cold!) bottle of wine, plastic glasses, bread, olive oil or butter, coarse sea salt, olives, and some different cheeses. You don't need more than that. At least I don't.

The higher, the better

Years ago, the Westerkerk in Amsterdam was under scaffolding. A friend of my brother took a girl up there late at night with a bottle of wine. I had never heard of something so romantic. It's a bit of a climb, life-threatening and absolutely illegal, but I could only appreciate it and long for such an outing myself. Don't drink too much wine, because you still have to get back, right?.

On the pier

The beach is of course nice or the dunes, but on the pier it might be a bit more comfortable, because no hassle with sand. You can still enjoy looking at the sea. Let your legs dangle towards the water, put two cushions under your butt, and bring a fleece blanket against the possible cold.

On the water

Rent a little boat. The coolest thing seems to be to have a little captain with you, because then you don't have to worry about sailing yourself. But well, maybe men actually find that fun. Just drifting through the canals or somewhere where it's a bit quieter, for example along the farmlands. It's also nice to sail past a restaurant where you can order something for the boat.

In the woods

It might sound a bit silly, because you probably see older couples on the same bikes in front of you, but a bike ride to the forest is also very romantic. Look for an open spot or one right in the middle of the forest among the trees, lay out your blanket there, and enjoy all the goodies you have with you and of course each other. Sweetly sappy, I know, but success guaranteed. Who knows, you might even see a deer prancing by.
