Once again, I embrace the sun the most and I'm quite happy that it’s peeking through these days. But last week, I had to ponder what on earth I should wear to a fashion show in 85 degrees, without looking like a melted popsicle. I went to the show of MOAM collective, where five emerging fashion talents showcased their new RE-renaissance collection. The location was the beautiful monumental tunnel that runs under the Rijksmuseum. You understand that this event required some precautions.
To start, after your daily day cream routine, make sure to apply a good sunscreen to your skin. The one from Sisley protects and hydrates. Hydration is very important during the heat, so we’ll keep this up for a while. The next step is the Chanel primer. This one is moisturizing, but also ensures that your makeup stays put better.
Heat and a gigantic layer of makeup is not a good idea. Before you know it, you’ll have a foundation sweat mustache and your cheeks suddenly have eyebrows from the running mascara. That’s why I like to replace my foundation with a BB cream during hot weather, like this one from L’Oréal. In this case, it’s a day cream, foundation, and bronzer in one. Of course, I go for a waterproof mascara. This one from M.A.C. gives a deep black color and makes your lashes fuller with just two strokes. I prefer a lipstick over a gloss, because the latter would only dry out your lips more. I choose the Rouge Volupté from YSL in the Fetish Pink color. Totally my thing.
I sometimes make the mistake of wanting to brave the heatwave with a loose, flowing hairstyle. It doesn’t work, it just doesn’t. After ten minutes, I already have those wet and dirty Bob de Rooij-like strands along my face. So I play it safe and go for a simple bun. I first make a middle part and comb my hair back tightly with a bristly brush, where I make a ponytail at the nape of my neck. Then I twist the whole section tightly around the ponytail in a circle. I secure it with a pin. Over this, I apply a gel mousse from Redken, which keeps everything in place. You won’t get a more sweat-proof hairstyle than this.
Yes, yes, this is what it’s all about. Because which dress is comfy and voguish enough? To stay a bit in the renaissance or baroque (which came a bit later, but what the heck) vibes, I bought this off-shoulder dress from Asos. Also on sale, so the price was ridiculously low. And it’s as wide as a tent, so sweat droplets (wherever) are unnoticeable. Oh, and when you’re on the bike, it flows so well that it looks like you’re pedaling in your birthday suit. Nice, right? I’m wearing anaconda sandals from & Other Stories from a previous season. It’s getting a bit boring by now, but I’m wearing that lovely pink YSL bag again. Finally, to go from renaissance back to 2015, I’m wearing these Ray Ban Round from this season.
