Nice hotels in your own country
Okay, we often talk about distant exotic travels or romantic weekends in European cities, but you can also have a great vacation in the Netherlands. Or at least go offline for a bit. It actually has its charm, vacationing in your own city or country. They call it a “staycation” and the phenomenon is becoming increasingly popular. So here are three fabulous hotels, right in the Netherlands.
Most people will know Hotel Arena as a club, but it is also really a hotel. It is located in Oost, near Artis. The 116 rooms are designed in a very design-ish way, with many old details such as ornaments and fireplaces. There is an indoor garden and, as mentioned, a club, where the best parties are held every week.
Planning a weekend in Maastricht? Drive a bit further north and book a room at Hotel Merici in Sittard. The wake-up call here comes in the form of church bells (how idyllic) and the fresh breakfast is simply delivered to your bed. There is a lovely restaurant, a large terrace, and a rain shower awaits you in your room, and that alone is reason enough to come here.
I used to live in Haarlem, which is quite close to Santpoort, but I have never slept here and that is still a dream of mine. It is a kind of mega castle on a huge estate, everything is perfectly in order and beautifully decorated, and you are just half an hour from the beach. It is not exactly cheap, but those who book through our little travel agency get a nice discount and suddenly that romantic dream weekend becomes quite doable.
