Amayzine

Summer-ready feet @ home

One of the biggest turn-offs for women, I think, is when they have neglected feet. Too long toenails and patches of callus are so uncool. Ugh. Admittedly, I also find an extensive pedicure session at the nail salon time-consuming and often just too expensive. But with this at-home step-by-step plan, we have no excuse anymore and our little feet will look presentable in no time.

Filing

It all starts with a dry foot. So grab your foot file and start scrubbing until your foot feels baby-soft again. The file from Tweezerman holds nicely and works quickly. A foot guru (yes, they exist) from Serbia once explained to me that you should never rasp your feet. This only creates more callus, and then you end up taking twice as long.

Soaking

Grab a basin and the Amayzine app to entertain yourself (just be careful that your phone doesn't splash into the water, it would be a shame for the app). Soak your feet for at least fifteen minutes. Kneipp has nice effervescent tablets that make your feet smell like rosemary.

Scrubbing

Scrub it baby! Your feet only become really soft with a good scrub. Make sure you don't skip any spots, like between the toes. The scrub from Rituals makes your feet wonderfully soft.

Cuticles

Dry your feet well, also between the toes. Cuticles are important because this is where your nail grows from. Think of it as your foundation. The same guru also told me that you should NEVER cut your cuticles. That's why you take care of them with a good cream, the one from Herôme ensures that hard cuticles become soft again.

Cut

Personally, I like to cut my toenails first and then file them for shape. I have been using a this Pfeilring model for years. If you then use the clipper for your hands again, make sure to clean it with alcohol.

Lotion

Finally, apply a nice foot lotion to your feet. By the way, if you do this twice a week before going to bed and put on socks over it (I was never allowed to do this by mom, but now it's for a higher purpose), it ensures that your feet stay soft longer. The Rituals Lao Tze gives off a fresh mint scent and calms your feet.

Polish

This is my favorite part; having fun with nail polish. I really have a big crush on the new Brights summer colors from O.P.I. Even if you're not into bright colors on your hands, I think your toes should stand out. Crazy as I am, I put a different color on each toe. Puh.
