Miljuschka Witzenhausen is doing great. She started as a VJ at TMF, but has now rolled out to become a true cooking goddess at 24Kitchen. Studio recordings, presentations of cookbooks, and taking the kids to school... She's quite busy with it. Thank God It’s Friday.
Miljus, how was your week?
“Oh man, hectic! I was at the Allerhande Christmas festival, recorded all sorts of cool things for 24Kitchen, and answered live questions from viewers for an hour. Additionally, my son turns six next week and had his last school day, so it was time for treats. Oh yes, and I still managed to set up a Christmas tree, which immediately fell over, very relaxed. Now I'm lying exhausted on the couch while my kids are tearing the house apart. I still need to get used to this independent woman thing.”
A nice weekend ahead?
“A lovely family weekend. My grandma turns 80 on Saturday and I am the party organizer for the family. On Sunday morning, I have my son's birthday party at the fire station. After that, in the afternoon, the kids go to their dad, and then I think I’ll dive into bed, haha.”
Do you still have time for yourself?
“That does sometimes fall by the wayside, yes. But tonight I’m finally going to do something fun for myself: book a ticket to Asia! And next week I’m already going away for two weeks. No idea yet what the hell I’m going to do there, but I’ve never been on vacation alone. It’s about time I take on this challenge. Beach scarf in my hair, sunglasses on, bikini bottom on, and drinking coconut milk in the sun. Can’t wait.”
What do you try to do every weekend?
“While some take the time to exercise on the weekend, I look for fun new eateries. A new bakery just opened around the corner in Amstelveen. I go there regularly for an incredibly delicious tompouce, which I can grab with my hand. At first, I got strange looks, but they recognize me now, haha. Then I walk on to the poultry shop or fishmonger and usually end up with a portion of chicken spare ribs on the couch. Delicious.”
Do you eat a lot in a day?
“Definitely. Let me put it this way: I take such good care of myself that I rarely feel hungry. And when I do feel hungry, I immediately get a sense of panic. No, that’s really not okay. When I’m hungry, I’m a monster and you’d better not run into me.”
Your favorite Sunday lazy day dish?
“That’s my eight-hour goose with dried fruit and onions. It goes in the oven at 180 degrees for an hour and then needs to simmer for seven hours at a lower temperature. You hardly have to do anything for it and you can eat it all week, delicious.”
You have a brand new talk show about food on 24Kitchen. Exciting?
“Very much so, I think this is the biggest thing I’ve ever done. But it’s really very cool. It’s like De Wereld Draait Door, only in the field of food. I have guests like Ronald Giphart and Harold Hamersma. The show will be aired from December 20 at 11 AM.’
