Last week I jumped on my bike to the SBS building near the IJ in Amsterdam. In tower 9 on the fourth floor, Claudia, the editor-in-chief of Marie Claire and Happy in Shape, was waiting for me.

“Hi Jet, I'll give you a quick tour first, don't be shocked, we really are all crammed together.”

I was especially incredibly distracted by the amazing view over the city.

“Well, on very busy days, it’s an incredibly warm chicken coop here, because for example Grazia is over there and a little cluster of Beau Monde is over there.”

Well, I found it all very impressive (especially to visit the editorial office of another magazine). We took a seat by the window, of course, in a corner with a couch and a chair. I had arranged to ask Claudia about her weekend. What quickly turned into a very pleasant chit-chat, because we had a lot in common. Like that we both love the Achterhoek, enjoy drinking Spätburgunder, and are fans of running.

“I work really hard during the week, so I find it very important to be free on Saturday and Sunday. I don’t even go to a show on the weekend at Amsterdam Fashion Week. I need that, I want the peace and freedom on the weekend. Of course, the laptop is sometimes open, but I don’t make work appointments. Unless my daughter can come along, like to Taylor Swift next Sunday.”

What a nice attitude. What does your Saturday look like?

“You can't make me happier than when it's Saturday at 5 PM and I open a bottle of wine, set up a board with cheese and sausages, and play games with my husband and child. That's how it goes every weekend.

Nowadays we are into horse-opoly; monopoly where you have to buy horses and every time you pass start, you have to neigh like a horse. You understand, the more wine, the louder and crazier the neighing.”

What's in your glass?

“I only drink German wines. Spätburgunder for example, and preferably a little cold. Just like you like to drink it, right? But at 5 PM, always a bottle of Sekt, German sparkling wine.”

And in the pan?

“During the week I go for healthy convenience food like pre-cut beans or slices of potato and so on. On the weekend I try new recipes from the Delicious magazine, with the matching wines being leading.”

And is there music on during the weekend?

“Actually not, my daughter always has it on. Ariana Grande and Rihanna are sung all day in the house and my husband likes to play The Opposites and Postmen. Quite loud music, so for me, everything can be turned off.

When I go for my morning run on Sunday, I do put on some nice uplifting disco music in my ears like Abba.”

Do you have a weekend outfit?

Flat shoes and an easy Daphne Deckers pants, something different than high heels and nice dresses. Every Friday I tell my husband: “Take a good look, darling, because this is going to be out for two days.”
