These were exciting weeks for Liza Sips. After all, this gorgeous lady launched her own book last month. Soapsop. Were the reviews good? You can soon find out. Just read on. We were also very curious about her weekend....
You launched your book, Soapsop, last month. What are the reactions so far?
“Particularly good! Just before the launch, I got nervous. Will readers like Soapsop? Imagine if it only gets bad reviews! And what will the media say? I just couldn't gauge it. Fortunately, it all turned out very well. In fact, I haven't come across a bad review! From the target audience, I get a lot of enthusiastic reactions and the media are also positive. This month, Soapsop is book of the month at Bruna. Bizarre, right? Naturally, we had a good toast to that.”
Why did you want to bring out this story? Was there a moment when you thought: and now I'm going to do it?
“I have always liked writing. I used to be in the school newspaper and after high school I wanted to start studying journalism. That turned out differently. When I was 16, I started acting in a soap opera and thus working full-time. Especially young girls kept asking me the same questions: what is it like to play in a soap? How do auditions go? And what is life like in the spotlight? That was my inspiration to start writing Soapsop. Based on my own experiences, with tips and tricks, but a fiction story. Whenever I could find the time, I wrote a bit further each time. At the time, I had no idea that this story would ever become a book, I did it purely because I enjoyed doing it myself. When it was finished, we sent the manuscript to several publishing houses very old skool. My publisher De Fontein was immediately enthusiastic!?”
Would you ever want to write another book or is it pretty much finished now?
“I have a good taste for it. In fact, I have just started working on the sequel!”
The launch was at Club Abe, but we are very curious about your outfit from that night. Tell.
“The launch was crazy! Together with Prsskd, my best friend Bianca's PR agency, I threw myself into the book launch. We knew exactly what we wanted: not a book launch in an old bookshop with a cup of coffee, but right away in one of the most beautiful clubs in Amsterdam. I was so busy with that that I only started worrying about my look at the last minute I deliberately chose not to appear too overdressed. I wore a leather skirt and a silk top by ByDanie with booties by L'enfant Terrible. Both have a young, hip and cool look so it suited the book's target audience perfectly.”
What do the next few weeks look like? Any exciting things coming up?
“Yes indeed! I have just started working on my second book. This time I will be working from deadlines, so that will take some getting used to for me as well. Apart from that, there is a really fun new project on the agenda, I am currently voicing a lot of voices and things are busy with shoots and television.”
It's Friday. How do you start your weekend? With a drink and a bite to eat?
“Tonight I'm having dinner with my boyfriend. Last week we were in Curaçao together for work and holiday, then you're together all day. Lovely! But this week we haven't seen much of each other, so tonight is date night!”
Do you have any fun things in the agenda for this weekend?
“I have a lovely standard weekend.Having a bite to eat and a drink tonight, going to the forest tomorrow, very civil shopping and I think a nice evening of Netflix on the sofa. Sunday I'm meeting up with girlfriends.”
What gives you the ultimate weekend feeling?
“I am not a huge stepper, but I do like to be in good company. I like best to have dinner with friends first and then have another drink. We prefer to have Saturdays as empty as possible. We love to see what we feel like on the day itself.”
Suppose you didn't have to take anything into account where time and money were not an issue. What would your ideal weekend look like?
“Then I would fly to New York with my boyfriend and family and have a lovely dinner at Catch in Meatpacking District. The next day to Central Park, shopping and going to the spa and then back to Amsterdam to enjoy an evening with my boyfriend in our own nice house!”
What time does your alarm clock go off again on Monday?
“07.00. I speak on Monday morning for the Disney series ‘Violetta’.”
