THE 17 TATTOOS OF CARA
and what they mean
Two years ago, Cara was still a blank slate, but once she felt a tattoo needle on her skin, she was hooked. In two years, she collected 17 non-washable images on her slender body that are all just as funny and witty as Cara herself. Here they come.
You probably know her from the Tag Heuer commercial where Cara sits with a clenched fist. Cara is a Leo by zodiac sign and felt like the king of the animals as a child, without fear. By the way, she got it done at Bang Bang in New York, a place she would return to very often.
Our Joss was spinning when I told her that Cara's middle name is Jocelyn. “I knew we had a connection.” Cara's second tattoo includes her initials CJD and is on her wrist. And indeed, it was done by her friends at Bang Bang.
Because Cara often feels like a product during modeling (read here just a few reasons why you might not want to become a model), a doll they prefer to see without substance, she had 'Made In England' written on the sole of her left foot.
Also, dear mother (by the way, also quite an interesting type, daughter of a billionaire, best friend of Sarah, you know, Andrew Ferguson's ex, and a woman with a rich history of alcohol and drugs) was immortalized on Cara's bicep with her name; Pandora. She actually got this tattoo done at Bang Bang with her friend Rita Ora.
During a trip to South America Cara met tattoo master Daniel Tucci and he gave her the free field, because after her trip she returned with a Roman symbol, a cross behind her ear and the number 12.
Maybe as a little reference to ‘Diamonds’ by friend Rihanna.
Where our friend Fred van Leer has ‘Let it go’ on his wrist (and that was, mind you, long before Frozen), Cara has the word Silence to remind herself that ‘Silence speaks when words can’t’. A little Bang Bang indeed.
It looks like it was drawn on with a pencil, but it is really there. I think it's super cute and I don't say that easily about a tattoo.
This tattoo first appeared in Cara's Instagram photos during a vacation to Barbados. Under one breast it says ‘Don’t worry’, under the other ‘Be happy’.
The back tattoo. What it exactly means is not clear, but Cara will surely elaborate on it one day. She first showed it off at her sister Poppy's wedding.
No, this does not refer to her cup size; it immortalizes the friendship between Cara and model Jourdan Dunn. Dunn Delevingne. Jourdan has the same tattoo in the same place; the hip.
Breath deep. That is on Cara's other bicep. To remind herself to stay calm in her whirlwind existence.
This one is on the inside of her finger and is also very subtle and actually quite beautiful.
Because Cara thinks about bacon every day, what am I saying, every moment, she had this tattooed on her left foot. On the sole of her foot.
At the bottom of her ribcage, Cara has the Coat of Arms tattoo.
That one is also on her other hand in the same place as the lion's head.
