The Amsterdam Fashion Week Tour by Lies and May
It's always a bit ‘messy’ in Amsterdam with the start of Fashion Week, because the Downtown program started a week ago with all sorts of fun things.
The real fashion week, with shows and catwalks and front rows and such, started last night.
Because not everyone can be at the shows and because Amsterdam has so much more to offer than catwalks and collections, Liesbeth and I jumped into our favorite mode of transport (the Renault Twingo duh) and drove past our favorite spots. If I had a euro for every time I said ‘do you know how small the turning circle is’, I would have been a rich person.
Are you ready? Amayzine's FashionWeekTour starts here.
Too lazy to read: then take a look at our nice video. Here:
1. Jefferson
Our headquarters may not be in the prettiest, but certainly in the coolest neighborhood of Amsterdam. For example, in our street is the office of Armin van Buuren. And Nick and Simon seem to mix their tracks there too. There are two advertising agencies, Mart Visser has his studio there, and that nice LaDress is around the corner. So at Jefferson, the lunch spot around the corner, it's all good with the cool types. Moreover, the menu is divine, they make crudités especially for us, and we can even order Blanc des blancs from Ruinart by the glass since recently. We would never do that of course, but still.
2. De Cornelis Schuytstraat
Not necessarily super hip but definitely chic and comfortable. Moreover, it's a nice little street if you want to spot a VIP, because famous types rain down here. Just be careful if you have something to hide, because there might be a paparazzo lurking in a tree.
3. George WPA
George is multiplying faster than the average rabbit family. There are now three (or four?) in Amsterdam, one in Laren, and one on the beach of Bloemendaal. Since this one on Willemsparkweg is closest to our office, we usually sit here. And the terrace is so nice.
4. The Conservatorium Hotel
This hotel is often called the living room of Amsterdam, and that's exactly what it is. You can sit comfortably in the visually very appealing sitting room, have lunch in the brasserie, and drink cocktails in the Tunesbar. If you want it a bit fancier, then Taiko is where you need to be. Tip: when paying, squint your eyes and quickly slide your card through the slot.
5. Utrechtsestraat
Everyone's favorite. Even if it's just because of Marc Jacobs, Centre Neuf, the cutest music store in the country Concerto, and the best delicatessen Jaap and Ria van Leeuwen. Recently, Utrechtsestraat has gained a new hot spot. Restaurant Guts and Glory: yes indeed, where the chef has a great time with Katja Schuurman.
6. And then there's
Of course Buffet van Odette where you eat healthy and delicious and can sit so nicely under the white awnings (with heat lamps) AND where one of your editors (whose name I won't mention, but it starts with an L) has drunk the wine supply. That has been replenished now, so I would say: go there.
Then the nine streets are also a nice tip, with special attention to the Bermuda Triangle Rika, Acne, and PS: Atelier.
