I HAVE A BLUE CHECKMARK

so I exist

The champagne popped recently on Instagram because Holland’s Next Top Model winner Loiza Lamers was awarded a blue checkmark on her Instagram account.

That is the modern equivalent of a royal distinction.

Just like with the ribbon, you never know when you are good and big enough to receive it, and in both cases, the criteria are unclear. There are people with an impressive following (Lieke van Lexmond for example) who don’t have it and people with a comparable account (that of Nicolette van Dam) who have joined the inner sanctum of Instagram.

“Just like with the ribbon, you never know when you are good and big enough to receive it, and in both cases, the criteria are unclear.‘

Twitter and Instagram remain silent as the grave about the rules of the checkmarks.

“We focus on highly sought-after users in the fields of music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business, and other important areas of interest. Our verification requirements are continuously updated.

We do not accept individual verification requests. If you belong to one of the above categories and your Twitter account meets our verification qualifications, we may contact you in the future.”

I can tell you who has a checkmark, such as. Beyoncé, Barack, and Adele, you get that. But that Jody Bernal has one and Gerard Joling, meh. So I would say: keep socializing diligently and remember that you ‘instagram so you are’, and when you are rewarded with that twisted checkmark, you grow to ‘I have a checkmark so I exist’.
