Where is the party?
THERE IS THE PARTY
When people ask me how I combine a full-time job with three children and still enjoy two (or three) glasses of wine in the evening, I like to introduce them to my beloved. He is actually a few notches more active.
Never goes to bed before midnight, always the first one up to make tea or wake up a bottle of milk. Once we are downstairs, he prepares breakfast and fills the lunch boxes (I am in charge of braiding hair, brushing teeth, and getting dressed), then the laptop opens and he quickly sends out five emails before getting into the car.
’In the evening, he watches a pilot (test episode for a TV program, as he is a TV producer) or sharpens the voice-over texts for How Heurt Het Eigenlijk, really, it just goes on. Besides his ‘job’, he has a few ‘projects'. Hobbies of the boss, he calls them. And those, they sometimes get out of hand.
Two years ago, he wanted to bring younger people to the Concertgebouw to listen to classical music. I blinked three times and there I was on the red plush. Next to Lieke and Jetteke van Lexmond and Jetje and dad Matthijs. Ruben Nicolai presented, and there was even a conductor flown in from the US. Charles Floyd, the man who conducted Obama's inauguration concert. Talk about being two handshakes away from someone...
We listened to the film music from Intouchables (of course), A Single Man (I suggested that one!) but also from Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, and Gladiator. Each piece of music was introduced by JanJaap van der Wal, Wende Snijders, Joram Lursen (the director of Alles is Liefde), or Alexander Klöpping.
We were cuddling with joy there on our plush chairs. Give us a glass of champagne, a reason to pull out our party dress, and listen to JanJaap and these pearls from the film music, and you won't hear us.
Because my husband still doesn't sit still, next week the Concertgebouw is rented out twice for this event. Friday is already completely sold out, but there are still a few places available on Thursday. So if you want to do something cultural that is secretly just really fun and quite glamorous, I would say; book and go. What do I have on offer? Row 1 plus tickets (ha, that sounds good), the best spot in the Concertgebouw, a wristband (yes, yes, a wristband) that gives you access to the Spiegelzaal where you can drink Moët & Chandon (free of charge) and eat my favorite snacks from ByGusto. Normally you pay €85 for this VIP ticket, but for our loyal amayzine friends, we have arranged a discount of €30. For €55 you will be in the best spot, you will listen to the sweet-voiced Ruben Nicolai (he presents the evening), drink Moët, eat the tastiest snacks, and thus listen to the most beautiful film music. Maybe I'll see you there because I will of course be there.
