THE NICEST NEIGHBORHOOD RESTAURANTS

from the star chefs and from us

Yesterday I woke up with a text from May: “Check Blendle, there you can read about the undiscovered neighborhood restaurants selected by the star chefs.” Look, I’m always in the mood for that. My ‘where do I still want to eat’ list is indeed getting much longer and it really happens quite often that I end up reserving somewhere I have already been, but okay. Restaurant tips are always welcome, especially when they come from the pros. I will share a few with you that I read on Blendle in Quote and I will write down a few of my own favorites of course. A restaurant you easily bike past is Koevoet in the Jordaan in Amsterdam. It’s located in a quiet street and looks like a brown café, but it’s one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. Do make a reservation, as there are only a few tables. Or you can just join from half past nine, that works too. So Italian.

Amsterdam

Ron Blaauw loves to eat at Loetje by the Amstel. If you love meat, you’ll go crazy there. You’ll find the best fried piece of steak with bacon and onion.

Guts & Glory is located on Utrechtsestraat and works with a theme every six months. Everything from the chicken, everything from the cow, just to name a few examples. “You really get blown away by the flavors and well-executed techniques, super sauces, and top cooking.” Says top chef Joris Bijdendijk who is in the kitchen of the Rijks.

May-Britt enjoys eating at La Cucina di Georgia. A small Italian restaurant on the Spaarne run by a woman. I always find that nice. “I’m already looking forward to a veal cheek with a glass of Barolo and a cheese platter for dessert.”.

Haarlem

Deventer“

This is one of my favorites. It’s called Moscow and you can eat incredibly delicious sushi there. The restaurant has several floors and looks super fancy (a bit too much actually with a lot of LED lights and such, but I’ll just look past that). The best spot is downstairs at the high tables. Sushi is rolled fresh right in front of you.

Erik van Loo, who cooks with two stars at Parkheuvel, likes to go to Café Stobbe in Rotterdam during his free hours. “A student-like eatery with a relaxed atmosphere. From a grand shrimp cocktail to a fantastic onion soup and a good beer.”.

Rotterdam

Hans van Wolde, who is in the kitchen of Beluga in Maastricht (two stars), really enjoys going to Café Thembi for the best satay with fries. The beer selection is large, so this is a nice place for beer enthusiasts.“

Maastricht

from De Librije (but you already knew that) goes out to dinner with family every Sunday. Always. For example, at Mayur Kitchen. “A good Indian restaurant. Hospitality is highly valued and the food is of good quality. Ask for the chef's specialty here, and you’ll get various small dishes.”.
