THIS IS HOW YOU AVOID TV SPOILERS
My favorite pastime is binge-watching series non-stop, so generally, I have seen everything that has been aired from all the major important series. But somehow, I never started Penoza, and that makes me feel completely out of the loop here at the office. May, Joss, and Jet live for Penoza and come in every Monday all wobbly at the office after another new episode aired on Sunday. So this weekend, I decided to start watching it too, immediately resulting in a nearly sleepless night as a consequence.
But the big problem with starting a series that has four seasons is that everyone assumes you have seen it too. For example, I once read on a site who Gossip Girl is, completely against my will, without knowing it beforehand. And last Sunday, I unsuspectingly had the radio on, where it was mentioned that lead actress Carmen – no wait, I’m not going to spoil it either. So I ran to the radio to turn it off, but the damage was already done. Long story short: what if you are the last person on earth to start a series, how do you ensure that others don’t ruin your viewing pleasure?
Tell everyone
While writing this piece, the Penoza conversation started up again here at the office. So now I immediately shout “NO HO STOP HO HO HO” and then people will whisper among themselves, but at least it’s not thrown around the entire editorial team. And that helps. So tip 1; if you notice that a conversation is about to touch on your series, intervene. Violence is permitted.
Hide media sources
Radio, TV, Twitter, you are safe nowhere. Actually, it’s best to sit temporarily in a bunker, and if that’s a bit much for you, ensure a strictly necessary minimum of social contacts and stay far away from radio and talk shows. And whatever you do: never EVER open Twitter or Facebook before, during, and after the airing of the program, because then you can bet it will go wrong.
Watch very quickly at
Call in sick at work, cancel all your appointments, and lock yourself in your bunker for a week to binge-watch all the episodes as fast as possible. Then no one can spoil it for you, and you can go back to living your life singing, dancing, and without any looming danger. May? Jet? Joss? You’ll see me again in about two weeks.
