This is how you become 100
A long and healthy life, that's what you ultimately want. And a lot of Sergio Rossi shoes and the new Boyfriend from Chanel, of course. For those last two, the recipe is simple; save and buy. But about how to become incredibly old, happy, and healthy, I will now tell you everything.
Emigrate
In Japan and Sardinia, people live the longest. In Japan lived Misao Okawa, who became 117 springs. How come they live so long there? The Japanese eat a lot of vegetables (from their own garden, I'll get back to that later) and sweet potatoes. Apparently, that's also very good. Why do Sardinians live so long? Just read on.
Move
Sardinians (and especially the people who live so long) live in a remote, mountainous area, which means they have to walk a lot. Hiking, walking, growing your own vegetables: everything contributes to good health.
Don’t overeat
Japanese and Sardinians often eat only 80% of what their stomach actually craves. You probably eat less when you have to gather what’s on your plate from your own garden. But always stop just before you feel full will help you a lot.
Be kind to your family
You can see this with the Sardinians, but also in other small villages and close-knit communities. People care for each other and are kind to each other. This leads to less stress and more balance, which is good for health.
Become a Seventh-day Adventist
Just kidding. But the group of Seventh-day Adventists living in Loma Linda in America lives to a ripe old age. They don’t smoke or drink, are close to each other, and, which we could also do, really take a day of rest. Without wifi, without TV. Just nature and possibly a good book. And of course, church.
Drink wine
What incredibly good news. Wine is good for people. Only one glass a day and it must be red, but still.
Go into nature
Green around you, the sound of the sea, the rustling of leaves on the trees... It all reduces stress and expands the mind. What you can also do is start your own vegetable garden. Then you kill three birds with one stone. You move, are outside, and grow your own vegetables. You probably eat them with even more attention and love, which means you will eat less again. Ta-da.
Become religious
It doesn’t have to be in God right away if that’s too much for you. It’s mainly about thinking on a higher level, caring for others, and wishing them well. It deepens and takes you out of your own situation, which often isn’t as terrible from a distance. Again, less stress.
Digital detox
One day a week, put your mobile on airplane mode, close your laptop, and put your toes in the earth. And then a glass of red wine. Or two. I’m fine with that.
