THIS IS HOW YOU SAVE GASOLINE
AND THEN YOU CAN BUY NICE SHOES WITH IT
When I'm filling up my incredibly thirsty car, I always think about what else I could have done with that money. Six handy little pants for the little ones at Petit Bateau, a meal at Izakaya, half a ticket to Rome. Because actually, everything is more fun to spend your money on than gasoline.
That's why our friends at Renault whispered some tips to me. I got complicated terms like double plus automatic and torque thrown at me, but I put it into plain language, so read it and do it, because according to Janet the Renault expert, it could save you fifty euros a month.
Close the windows
Neelie Kroes is said to have once said that you should just open your window to cool down your car instead of letting your air conditioning blast. Wrong! Open window is okay at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour, after that an open window costs a lot of energy (because your aerodynamics are gone) and you really better turn on the air conditioning.
Moreover, your hair will just get messy.
No convertible
As fun and sexy as it is (aside from the serious hair problem, think back to this Bridget Jones), a convertible is not aerodynamic and therefore drives more expensively than a regular car. Car manufacturers try to counter this with screens behind your headrest and some adjustments that I can't recall right now, but frugal, it is not.
No bike on the back
You obviously don't do that, but just so you know. Taking a bike to France costs a lot of extra energy and that can easily run into the tens of euros. But that also applies to a surfboard on your roof. In any case, you should immediately remove the carriers from your roof when you get home, because they are little energy killers.
Keep your distance
Tailgating is tiring and annoying anyway, and there is also a huge risk of collision, because you are bound to check your WhatsApp in traffic. So keep your distance, that way you drive more relaxed and are not constantly braking and accelerating, and you are therefore being very economical.
Check your tire pressure
Okay, you should do this once a month. Just like checking your oil level. I never do it. Please don't tell anyone. But if your tires are soft, it costs more to drive. It's pretty logical.
Anticipate
If you see that the traffic light has been green for a while, the chance that it will turn red soon is high. So ease off the gas and roll gently until you come to a calm stop at the red light.
Also, when you are merging, it is better to ease off the gas than to accelerate and then suddenly brake hard. That wears out your tires and consumes gasoline.
Drive solo
Sounds incredibly unsociable, but the more the merrier does not apply in terms of energy. The more people, the heavier, and thus the more expensive.
