The secrets of Instagram
Twitter is sooo over and SSnapchat may be the new black in the digital world; Instagram is still the most important blogging platform. Just look at the cover of the new Glamour and you'll see Dutch blogger pride there.
Linda Tol, Lizzy van der Ligt (perhaps my biggest favorite), Sabrina Meijer, Yara Michels and Anna Nooshin built their own fashion stage and all have around 100,000 loyal followers.
Now Instagram is more or less their job, they travel the world and go all out for the right picture, but there are definitely things you can learn from them for your Insta account.
Don't rush it
You see it happening with many beginner Instagrammers. They treat their account as if it were Facebook. Less polished photos are perfectly fine there, because Facebook gives an honest glimpse into life, on Instagram you shouldn't come with that. Ensure beautiful images. Move plates, drape bags, sprinkle some rose petals and light a candle in the background. A good Instagram image is a still life that has received a lot of attention.
Give your account its own atmosphere
Critically view the overview image of your account. Do the images match in atmosphere or do you jump from one extreme to another? It's best and most ‘followable’ if all your photos radiate the same atmosphere and you give your account its own signature. Queen of Jetlags, for example, travels all over the world (hence the name) and regularly has an airplane wing in sight. Jet Instaat writes a lot about food and a table that is almost being attacked is her signature. No week goes by without Liesbeth's cat Disco doing a little dance and Josselin Instaat only appears in black/white. For me, my open laptop in a different beautiful spot each time is a leitmotif and you regularly see a little foot from one of my little girls sliding in a designer heel.
Choose your own filters
A bit of an Insta-girl naturally has her own apps with which she edits photos. For them, that Insta filter is way too easy. Know that a lot of work goes into such a post. An hour has been spent on it.
Write in English
We plead guilty, because we all write in our mother tongue because we think it makes us a bit funnier, but if you want to reach the world, then English is of course your working language. And ensure good hashtags. A bit of a blogger has their own signature hashtag. Or a temporary hashtag like we currently have with #amayzinedoesmilan.
Something with tongues and two fingers
Look at the accounts of the bigger Insta girls and you regularly see a sticking out tongue or a peace sign. Why does it work? It radiates joy and youth and also shows that you don't take it all too seriously. Life is fun, remember?
Flowers and macarons
It has to do with our love for raw and nature but it all has to look a bit nice. Enter; macarons and flowers. Your likes won't disappoint you
One more little secret
Food and actually everything looks much better on white tables. Did you know that the Insta girls only meet in restaurants with white tables? Don't tell anyone, okay?
