this is how you survive a day of sailing

You know, May and I were in Mallorca this week for two days. At the invitation of Gaastra, who parked us on a boat on the second day and let us enjoy the sun and water all day long. But a day on a boat has its challenges, and we have learned quite a few valuable lessons that we would like to share with you. So here we are.

Wear shoes with white soles

Because black soles leave spots and stains on the boat, and the average boat owner is not waiting for that. If you're standing in a small boat, it's not a problem, but with fancier models, it is.

Take care of your feet

Because if you have to take your shoes off, it’s better if a nice pair of feet comes out with a neat polish on them.

Bring a straw

Because try taking a sip of rosé when you're speeding over the water at 90 km/h. It won't work, and before you know it, your outfit is covered in stains. Stick a straw in it, and you can drink all day without a care, and that's what we want.

Don't wear a dress

Because it flaps and flutters, and before you know it, you're in your birthday suit. vagine.

Better a swimsuit than a bikini

For several reasons. First, because you can easily throw on a pair of shorts over it, and then you're a bit more dressed. Second, because you're going to be sitting, standing, and walking, and doing that in a bikini is quite a bit daunting for many (myself included). Holding in your stomach while sitting is a hassle (and usually unnecessary, but many women, again, myself included, do that all the time), so a swimsuit gives just a bit more confidence.

Bring a bag that can withstand a splash of water

Because if you have a boat that can go a bit faster, a drop of seawater is bound to come over you. Now you can dry off quickly, but your nice leather bag is not looking forward to that.

Lots of sunscreen

Because you are definitely going to get burned. I was on that boat for maybe 5 hours, but the top of my back has a somewhat red hue, and that's not fun for anyone.

Something to drape over your shoulders

A scarf, a cloth, or a blouse, because when you feel your shoulders burning, that's a quick and effective solution.

Bring a cap

And no hat because it will blow off.
