Tips for eating more slowly

Because that's important

Eating slowly is healthy. Period. This means you should actually chew each bite about 27 times. If you stuff everything in quickly and chew far too little, you will soon have a bloated feeling and you might burp quite a bit. The slower you eat (which also means the more you enjoy and are aware of what you eat), the more satisfied you become, and your food is much easier to digest this way. People, this will seriously make you slim. It's also very important that you enjoy your meal, so having your plate on your lap (which I sometimes find delightful) is not necessarily the best example. At the table, sitting upright, tasting mindfully, those kinds of things. I will give you tips on how to make this a habit. Handy for you and for myself, as I can also learn from it.

  • So always eat at the table. Not walking around the house, slouched on the couch, or in bed (unless it's breakfast in bed, you understand). You really need to sit down for a meal. Just create a fixed eating spot in your house. At the table, then.
  • Eat ‘mindfully’. Use all your senses while eating: first smell your food, then taste a small bite, and look at your food. With more attention, you automatically eat slower, and that gives you much more satisfaction.
  • Make it a bit cozy and easy for yourself as well. For example, arrange your plate nicely, play some music, and tidy up your table.
  • Eat often with someone. It's both more enjoyable and you usually chat while eating, which helps you eat slower.
  • Eat with a knife and fork and take small bites. Take a new bite each time your mouth is empty.
  • Small trick. Eat with your left hand if you are right-handed (and with your right if you are left-handed). It takes much more effort and helps a lot to eat slower.
  • Eat enough throughout the day, every 2 to 3 hours. If you are very hungry, you will eat faster. This tip always helps me a lot.

Well, mom has spoken again. I'm strict, huh?
