Emptying out at Victoria's Secret?
We had of course seen it coming a bit, but it was still a bit of a gulp when the moment actually arrived. The departure of Doutzen Kroes from Victoria's Secret marks the end of an era that we Dutchies were always quite proud of. But Doutzen is not the only Angel hanging up her wings. The news that Karlie Kloss is also saying goodbye came in almost simultaneously and thus shakes the winged dream team quite a bit on its foundations.
The New York Post reports that the ladies would be ‘underpaid’ and that this is the main reason for their departure. By underpaid, a contract of $100,000 is meant, while the deals of former Angels Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, and Gisele Bündchen were in the millions at the time. This theory aligns with the explanation given by Ed Razek, the head of Victoria's Secret, for Doutzen's departure. “Doutzen received a lucrative opportunity in Europe and this would conflict with her obligations in the US. So at the request of her agency, we terminated her contract.”
But the rumor mill is of course churning vigorously, as Alessandra Ambrosio and Adriana Lima are also said to not be staying much longer. Miranda Kerr was already gone so there are only a few iconic angels left. Fortunately, we still have Romee Strijd, Bregje Heinen, Imaan Hammam, and Maud Welzen to uphold the Dutch honor at Victoria's Secret and it is said that the first one has the best chance of actually breaking into the elite group of Angels.
Then it is of course also exciting where our Doutzen will pop up next. During an interview with Humberto Tan earlier this year, she hinted that there might be a new candidate to wrap her in lingerie. And when there are hints in such a situation, you can actually assume that this is already in the works. Who knows... What lingerie is more beautiful than Victoria's Secret and has its roots in Europe?
