Look around you. You probably have such an (annoying, just kidding) type in your life. The editorial assistant, for example, or your partner's niece. Such a super slim type who calmly spreads egg salad on her white bun, puts extra mayonnaise on her hotdog, and is really more thin than thick. They might all do it unconsciously, but there is a reason why they are so thin. And we are going to take a nice look at that. Ha. That will teach her.

Move

Observe that thin type closely. She is probably always the first to jump up to open the door when the doorbell rings. Or she hops to the kitchen to refill the glasses and go around with the snacks. There is also a good chance that this person has a little tic. Tapping with her toes while she is on the phone, for example. Or walking around while she talks. Because of that jumping, she is always in motion and burns many more calories than you (or I hear, I'm no better and prefer to do this) while comfortably leaning back.

Try to move more. See that yet another package being delivered as a gift. Because hey, you are moving. Use a phone call to quickly unload the dishwasher, park your car far away, and never take the elevator.

 Attention to your food

It's very unkind what I'm about to write, but the only people I see eating while walking on the street are overweight people. Really. Eating out of habit is not good. Sit down, set the table nicely, turn off the television, and put that newspaper away for a moment. Good. No, also put your mobile in the cupboard for a moment. Just light a candle, Norah Jones or Adele for my part on Spotify, and now pay attention to your food. Bet you eat less? This is because you are more open to the signal your stomach sends to your brain that you have had enough.

 Order to measure

People who live ‘close to their body’ often know very well what works for them. Slim people often order to measure in a restaurant. Well the meat, not the sauce, that kind of thing. By their balanced meal, they put together exactly a plate that they feel good about. And usually, that is also something less calorie-rich than what a restaurant serves you. Try to see if in case you take bread beforehand (delicious) or the fries with your fish might be a bit too much and give you a full feeling.

 Stay away from leftovers

I know this pitfall so well. You clear the breakfast table and there are still four crusts with that delicious Nutella. A shame to throw away and actually just too tasty to leave. Many women find leftovers ‘a waste’ and eat them for that reason. Not because they really need them. Ask yourself if you will also find those extra bags on your hips a waste later. Or are they just annoying? Conclusion; leftovers belong in the trash. And if you really find it a waste, think of something to make out of it or give the ducks a good day.

Just pay attention, thin people almost never finish their plate.

 Eat what you like

I once read about a man who lost thirty kilos. This man drank a milkshake every day and that resulted in quite a bit of overweight. He went to a nutrition coach who gave him an assignment: ask yourself every day if you really like that milkshake. From that moment on, the man threw away his milkshake if he didn't like it. Et voilà, thirty kilos off. Now this man certainly had quite a bit to lose, but you understand what I mean.

We often eat but without realizing if we really feel like it. Freek Koster, director of Touché Models always tells his models that they can of course eat a brownie if they really feel like it. But then with full attention. On a nice plate, with a lovely cup of tea alongside where you enjoy every bite. And then you will see that you might not even finish it.

The most important lesson is that you learn what makes you feel good and that is usually also exactly what keeps you fit and fabulous.
