PAYDAY TROPHY
In the past, when I was still a poorly paid little editor at TV, I looked forward to payday. Then I would fill the tank of my Renault 5 completely full (otherwise I always filled it for ten euros), did my shopping with a cart instead of a basket, and bought fresh flowers. And clothes, too. Although I would pay for those with my credit card because otherwise I would blow through my entire month’s salary immediately.
In the meantime, I can certainly fill my car's tank without worrying about whether I can still buy the new Vogue, but still, payday remains a delightful moment. A little splurge on luxury. Although that means you eat rice for the rest of the month.
I'm torn between the following splurges, what do you think?
A bottle of Amarone
This is my favorite wine. It is made from a dried grape, which means that twice as many grapes are needed for a bottle, making the wine taste richer and fuller. Steak on the side and then chocolate, and you won't hear from me again.
Hanging garden chair
I don't know the real name of this chair, but it is a kind of nest with a hook attached to a sturdy stand. I can totally see myself sitting in it for the coming months. A book on the side, a glass on a nearby side table, and I will be good this summer. It's almost spring, so this chair seems like a perfect purchase to celebrate that.
A very beautiful piece of clothing
No waiting for the sale, just buy something really beautiful that you will enjoy all summer (you read it, I am really, really, really ready for it). Liesbeth is drooling over a beautiful cashmere sweater from Donna Karan, and I just ordered an amazing painted jeans from Ralph Lauren. You should think that those retailers with a clothing store also deserve some turnover.
That Sisley serum
You can smear as much as you want on your face, if the base isn't good, it won't work. I am addicted to Sisley’s Black Rose Precious Face Oil. I would almost want to drink it, it smells so wonderful, and my skin is immediately no longer dry and all the little, and bigger..., lines disappear.
Scented candle
With spring (that's what it is for me, after the -25 in New York, every day here feels incredibly like spring) comes a new scent. That Feu de Bois has now burned out, so it's time for something new. The Baobab Orange River, for example, or the Eau Rose from Dyptique are on my list.
