New York never stops and there's always something buzzing. This week this was buzzing through the streets:
1. It's National Donut Day
Americans are the ultimate bosses when it comes to (my favorite, by the way) motto: ‘Life is a party.’ They are masters of the national ‘party making’, and on June 5th, it's the donut's turn! In America, the donut has transformed from cop food to trendy sweet artworks for everyone who wants to be hip. Is the donut as popular as the cupcake? Oh definitely! So I say: “Cheers to the donut!” And have one for yourself too.
2. Manhattan Henge
Anyone who has seen that all top fashion blogger babe is currently hanging out in New York, has surely also noticed that they just couldn't stop talking about “the light” a few days ago. Well girls, and yes this is a bit of mustard after the meal, but it was Manhattan Henge. A biannual phenomenon where the sun shines exactly in the middle of all the streets. Mega beautiful and definitely something to consider when planning a Yorkie trip. The next one is scheduled for July 12th and 13th. So for all the Instagrammers among us; from now on use #manhattanhenge.
3. Can we do this one more time, MoMA?
Okay, this is an oldie from 2010, but somehow the video of this MoMA live performance just went viral for me now. Marina Abramović is the artist and she held one minute of silence with every stranger who showed up at MoMA. And then her ex-lover joins in. She knows nothing and the last time she saw him was ages ago on the Great Wall of China. Here they said goodbye – it looks like a movie – turned away from each other and have never seen each other since. Until this moment. I say: goosebumps. Anyway, I think this live art is something MoMA should do more often. Here’s a call to MoMA: pleaseeee do something like this again. I’ll stand in line.
