Tips for working from home
Freelancing is trendy, hot, and very much of the now. I really know so many people who no longer want to work for a boss and just go for their own path, which is only very nice. But that does mean that you, especially in the beginning, will often have to work a lot from home, and that can sometimes be difficult. For years, I was locked up at home all day as a freelancer, and even though I now sit behind the Amayzine desks five days a week, a day at home still does me a lot of good. But there are some tips & tricks that can make it even better, so let me tell you about those.
Get dressed
Yes, this is the biggest pitfall and I have fallen into it so many times. Just without showering, hop into your pajamas behind your desk. Seems fun, it is, but it's not very healthy and before you know it, a week has passed in which you haven't showered and you haven't dressed normally. At least, that happened to me quite often. So, get up, take a shower, put on a nice normal outfit, and act as if you are going to an office.
Create a good workspace
For me, that's just my dining table, but sometimes I go crazy there because I work and live in the same place. It's actually better to have a separate workspace so that work and private life don't overlap even more than they already do when you work from home. If that isn't possible for spatial reasons, make sure to tidy up all your work stuff when you're done, so you're not constantly surrounded by your work items.
Stick to your working hours
The big danger of working from home is that you are always working. Set your working hours and stick to them, because before you know it, you're sitting behind your laptop every day until 10 PM, and sometimes that's just necessary, but it's important to have a life outside of that as well.
Take advantage of the benefits
Because they are there. You can quickly go to the shoemaker, or to the dry cleaner, the hairdresser, or whatever, it can just be during the week and you don't have to cram all those kinds of chores into the weekend. And if it's scorching hot, you can also say that you work from 9 AM to 12 PM, then spend the whole day outside in the sun, and continue again in the evening. See, being your own boss isn't so bad after all.
