X-mas with the stars

WITH FRED VAN LEER

Of course, our regular boyfriend cannot be missing in our fresh Christmas column. Because Fred -sequin- van Leer knows how to appreciate a little sparkle and already had a tree with 1500 balls brought in last week. He is looking forward to it.

What does your Christmas look like this year? Tell me everything, you wake up on Christmas Day and then…

“I always go to my parents on Christmas Eve, we play a dice game with presents and then I always go out with friends for a good drink. So I will probably wake up very hungover on Christmas Day, but that’s okay because I won’t be doing anything all day anyway. I enjoy being alone and will spend the whole day watching Christmas movies. People really think that’s not okay, but I love it. It’s my way of celebrating Christmas. On Boxing Day, I have the house full with about 12 people and then we will eat, drink, and laugh together and then go out in Rotterdam.”

Wat is je mooiste, liefste kerstherinnering?

“Actually, every Christmas is dear to me, as long as you can celebrate it in good health with your family. If I had to choose, it would be the moment during Christmas when my father, a very down-to-earth man, told me that he was really proud of me.‘

Online for the fun Christmas pictures, scrolling through Instagram and on WhatsApp or offline with friends and family?

“No, I really hate that. Maybe a nice little photo on Instagram before the evening, but I actually think everyone should hand in their phone. I’m online all year round, during Christmas it doesn’t have to be for me.”

Welke boeken liggen er op je te wachten?

“No, I’m not going to read during Christmas, Christmas is really for movies and being busy with food.”

Wat hoop je stiekem onder de boom te vinden dit jaar?

“I don’t need anything at all, because I have everything I want. The dice game is not about the presents, but purely about the coziness around it. Although I secretly would like the state lottery ticket that’s in between every year…”

Which Christmas movie are you going to watch for the 87th time this year?

“Home Alone.”

What have you done to bring Christmas into your home?

“Yesterday, the florist happened to stop by and he set up a gigantic tree of 3 by 3 meters. There are exactly 1500 balls hanging in it, so yes, my house is quite Christmassy.”

Which Christmas cliché do you think is really outdated?

“I think everything is allowed at Christmas. Maybe I kick against the Christmas cliché of togetherness by celebrating it alone, but hey, I’m just a loner so I enjoy it.”

In your comfy outfit on the couch or dressed up at the table?

“Just in a tracksuit on the couch. Christmas should be comfortable for me and a shirt just doesn’t belong to that. I always have to be dressed up all year round, so when I don’t have to for once, it’s wonderful!”
