Show friend Olcay cannot be missing in our “Christmas with the stars” section, because if anyone is a star, it is her. Let's ask how her Christmas days look like. Read along.
What does your Christmas look like this year? Tell me everything, you wake up on Christmas Day and then…
‘I’m lying blissfully dreaming on an exotic beach enjoying a cocktail and the sound of the sea. My phone is off and the only important decision I have to make that day is the choice between a Japanese or Italian dinner.’
Wat is je mooiste, liefste kerstherinnering?
‘We never celebrate Christmas at home with family as might be customary. I was always so jealous of my friends who had a beautiful Christmas tree. We weren’t allowed to have a Christmas tree. That wasn’t part of our traditions. The funny thing is that my mother did take us to church in Waalwijk on Christmas. Sitting there and experiencing the Christmas Eve mass with your whole family is still a very beautiful memory for me. My mother always found that very special and emotional. I really love my family, our bond is very strong, even if we can’t see each other much.’
Online for the best Christmas snapshots, scrolling through Instagram and WhatsApping with your friends or offline with friends and family?
‘Enjoying offline with family and friends is what Christmas is all about for me.’
Welke boeken liggen er op je te wachten?
‘I love reading biographies, but this Christmas I’m looking forward to a stack of magazines waiting for me. Delicious, simple reading material that I can leisurely flip through between naps.’
Wat hoop je stiekem onder de boom te vinden dit jaar?
‘I have already received many lovely and beautiful gifts. The best surprise of this Christmas was the fact that my colleague/friend Carolina had bought a Christmas tree for me and secretly decorated it… That’s a nice surprise to come home to.’
Which Christmas movie are you going to watch for the 87th time this year?
”It’s a Wonderful Life’. Really a classic. If you haven’t seen it yet, you must watch it.‘
All together at the Christmas dinner, what does your playlist look like?
‘Corny, haha. From ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ to ‘Driving Home For Christmas’.’
What can your mother-in-law really not put on the table this Christmas?
‘My mother-in-law is a hilarious person with a lot of humor and self-awareness, so she doesn’t cook. She arranges good catering and takes into account all the wishes of her guests.’
Wat ga je zelf eigenlijk koken? En wat wordt daarbij geschonken?
‘I’m on vacation so I’m being cooked for…’
Which Christmas cliché do you think is really outdated?
‘I don’t like things that are mandatory and that’s not what Christmas is about for me at all. But that’s one of the things that seems annoying to me with many friends/families. That forced stuff is so cliché.’
In your comfy outfit on the couch or dressed up at the table?
‘Dressed up at the table! If you can go all out, you should. In my case, that’s definitely with heels and a nice suit or midi dress. I’m not so much into the bells and whistles anymore, but I still love to dress up.’
De deur uit of de hele dag op en rond de bank?
‘Out the door! There’s a nice energy and everyone is cheerful and kind. So let’s enjoy!’
