5 MISTAKES EVEN MAKE-UP ARTISTS MAKE
Hey, finally, they make mistakes too
That we sometimes walk around like Oompa Loompas because we chose the wrong bronzer color; story of our life. Just like lipstick on teeth, eyebrows that are too dark, or eyelashes that are glued together. We can certainly cover it up under the latest beauty trend, but secretly it has just gone quite wrong in front of the mirror. And even the very, very best make-up artists make mistakes. So we have like-minded people. They (I won't name names) whispered to me the most common mistakes.
Too much translucent powder
Dipping the brush into the powder pot and then blowing off the excess like it’s a Mari. You would think it can't go wrong. Yet it looks fine in the studio or in front of the mirror, but when you stand in the bright light of the photographers, it can lead to quite a Angelina Jolie-moment (just to catch up: she had a totally white ghost face in the photo during an important award show. Looked great in the hall, but on the red carpet she was a different appearance.). Look closely at the ingredients of the powder and make sure there are no shiny pigments or silver bits in it. Translucent is translucent.
Eyebrows in the wrong shape
For the shape of your eyebrows there are of course some simple rules, but ultimately it’s about what really suits your face. And then you also have to deal with the perfect color for your face, the shape, and the products. So it’s actually quite an art to draw the perfect brow on your face. And all artists make mistakes. Even make-up artists have made a small mistake once, you know.
“And thanks to Kylie Jenner, we can totally embrace that trend”
Contouring
Every make-up artist always gets super excited when it comes to contouring and highlighting. Yes, they really make a party out of it and they often can't get enough of working with dark powders and highlighters to create more shape. Only, some artists forget that every face is different and that contouring is meant to enhance the natural shape of the face. It’s not a standard trick that you apply to everyone.
Foundation fail
Even though all make-up artists always take a big suitcase full of nice bottles and jars with them, it’s not the case that every foundation suits every skin. It’s super important to look at the natural skin tone before you start applying a color to your face. And you do that in good light. In a make-up studio, you have very different light and it can foundation result in a totally different tone, after which you have a completely different look in daylight. Mistake.
Line around the lips
To make the lips look a bit bigger, it’s not so crazy to draw a line. And thanks to Kylie Jenner we can totally embrace that trend. Sometimes it just goes a little bit wrong, and the artists are just a tad too enthusiastic. Either they take a too enthusiastic bright color, or a line comes just outside the original lip.
