5 STYLE LESSONS YOU CAN LEARN FROM TOP MODELS

It's Fashion Week and that means all eager fashion eyes are focused on the fresh goods that the model girls (this for example) are hanging on the catwalk around the slender bodies. But even on the street, models are the ones to watch. Just like you walk through the office garden every day, they are always surrounded by the coolest stylists (like this) and the latest fashion, resulting in the models themselves developing an excellent sense of style.

1. A skinny jeans is, still, a good idea

You will see a model more often with a skinny with ripped pieces at the knee. It all has to come across as very casual and ‘accidental’.

Favorite model brands are Rag & Bone (they are also generous with giving away their stuff) and Acne with the pencil model. Always skinny, because that's how your legs (preferably bizarrely long and slim) look best.

2. White T-shirt

Preferably not too tight. The basic rule is that it shouldn't be too flashy. You're slim, so you don't need to emphasize that with a tight T-shirt. Ideally, you have a normal model that drapes a bit around your belly with an everyday round neck. Personally, I still find it very nice if I see a fun bra underneath in a different color. For castings, casting directors want to see models as plain as possible, so without embellishments. In a white T-shirt with your hair in a ponytail, the real you comes across best.

3. The chelsea boot or the motorcycle boots

The models of today are cool and tough and have to (driver or not) cover a lot of ground on foot. As beautiful as Jimmy Choo's and Louboutins are, heels are not an option for everyday use. So they opt for chelsea boots or of course the motorcycle boots. They still have those Jimmy Choo's or Valentino's on their feet.

4. The bag

Look, that's where the boys are separated from the men. The bag determines where you stand as a model and what type you are. The tough and artistic Julia Nobis is more likely to be seen with a large backpack than with a Chanel, Maartje Verhoef swears by her COACH bag because it fits so much, and Chanel Iman carries (how could it be otherwise) a striking red Chanel bag. And top model Cato van Ee has this bag and this is all that's in it.

5. And then the makeup

It's extravagant as they move from one show to another, but normally you see a model as makeup-free as possible. Maybe the eyebrows are slightly enhanced and there's a swipe of mascara applied, but that's it. Simple is the word.
