5 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM MILAN
And back behind my desk. Suitcase actually unpacked (I have a great talent for procrastinating that), clothes taken to the dry cleaner, and the laptop open again. Milan is over, but since I have learned many lessons there, let me catch you up.
1. Milan loves fashion
Everyone, everyone, everyone knows that fashion week is underway. The taxi drivers know Alessandro Michele and the guy who makes your latte macchiato asks if Carine Roitfeld is still doing the styling for Max Mara. I love it.
2. The sunglasses from Gucci
You have to have them. Because they are so incredibly Milan and so not understated Paris. Big, bold, and glittery. Love it. Perfect for anyone who finds the sweaters or shoes just a bit too expensive and still wants the total Gucci experience. And you wear those glasses every day. A depth investment.
3. Everything about your hair
This sounds a bit complicated, but at Gucci and Max Mara, you saw sunglasses that were held on with a band around your head, and at Max Mara, the sun visor was a thing. Where a normal person would hide such a band under their hair, it is now a matter of letting that band sit over your hair. Fashion, people. Fashion.
Fashion, people. Fashion.
4. A downside for Carine Roitfeld
I am a big fan of Carine Roitfeld (proof) and her taste and style. Although I find her series for Harper’s Bazaar sometimes a bit 80s, she is still a master of fashion. But now I saw her backstage at Max Mara where she has been doing the styling for years. And well, there she was walking on 12 centimeter high leopard print platforms that she combined with a patterned pantyhose. Quite a lot for early morning, but so be it. She was also wearing her signature black pencil skirt and sweater, but, and here it comes, she had draped her leopard print coat over her shoulders. And yes, I just think that’s a bit of a case of I don’t know. I mean. You are at work, you are doing the styling, it’s not about you right now. Who can tie a shoelace with a draped coat over her shoulders? Then something that might be very cool outside on the street suddenly seems a bit pretentious. Next time just wear a cardigan, do the buttons in a Diana Vreelands creative way on the back. And ballerinas on your feet, they also come in leopard print.
5. Bella Hadid is quite transformed
I am totally into the Hadid family. Of course, I am best friends with Gigi (proof), but Bella also fascinates me. Stunningly beautiful, of course, but have you ever seen photos of her from before? And have you heard that there are no photos from the period around her fifteenth birthday? She was undergoing some renovations then. Nose, lips, cheekbones. They say, right? But I believe it.
