5 THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW

(and that will especially impress men)

Women and cars. Usually, we don't get beyond the themes of color and the contents of the trunk, but cars are fun. Moreover, you can make quite an impression on random men in the pub with them. Since I've cherished a close friendship with the house of Renault for three years, here are some facts that even your beloved might not know.

1. It all started in a café

Well, in front of a café on Christmas Eve, to be precise. Louis Renault was standing with his brothers saying ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ because he had built a car himself. Now that's already quite impressive, but we're talking about 1898, mind you. Back then, a normal person still traveled by horse and carriage. A lawyer joined the group and thought it was all just so-so. That car surely couldn't make it up the steep 13 percent hill towards Montmartre.

A bet was born. Of course, it worked, the lawyer ordered a car et voilà (as the French say): the foundation for a car empire was laid.

2. Dutch pride

The chief designer of Renault is Laurens van den Acker. Sounds Dutch and he is. He is the king of Renault. He came up with the daisy where each life stage of ‘the human‘ gets its own petal, and within those petals, the cars fall. So there's something for everyone.

“I once had the chance to meet Laurens van den Acker (he's a kind of pop star in car land) and complimented him on his cool sneakers”

3. And a special mention for the sneakers

I once had the chance to meet Laurens van den Acker (he's a kind of pop star in car land) and complimented him on his cool sneakers. He designed them himself. Each car has a different pair of sneakers. His way of making his suit (which of course must be worn in his position) a bit more stylish.

4. Max Verstappen really does have a Renault engine

There has been a lot of fuss: Max Verstappen and Renault. Last year, things weren't going well between the two, but just like in love, it couldn't be with or without each other. For reasons I don't quite understand, Max officially drives a Red Bull/Tag Heuer car, but we all know that Tag Heuer makes beautiful watches, not car engines. So it's just from Renault and man oh man, what a great pair they suddenly are.

5. Third in Europe

Renault is the third largest car brand in Europe. Yes, they can be quite proud of that, and moreover, Renault has the most new launches per year.

Want to see classic Renaults? Then come to the Concours d’Elégance in Apeldoorn tomorrow where the most beautiful motorsport classics will be on display. I'll be there too (almost a classic myself). Have a nice weekend!
