8 TIPS VOOR BUITEN TRAINEN
IN DE KOU
May has discovered bootcamping and come rain or shine, she is in the park on Saturday mornings. Right, May? I think it's impressive because I prefer to dive into the gym this month.
I recently told you about the bootcamp essentials to get through an outdoor class as comfortably as possible, but when it gets really cold, I have a list for you to keep warm as best as you can.
It's important to keep your muscles warm, otherwise they can tear or you'll have incredible muscle pain the next day. So make sure to dress warmly again as soon as possible after the workout or take a hot shower. And don't think about cooling down first because you're so heated from the workout. Below are a few more tips for a good workout outside in the cold (because we're not wimps, right?).
- The most important parts to warm up are your wrists, ankles, and ears. If those are warm, your whole body is warm.
- In winter, I often wear gloves. I make sure they are really thin and light so that I can easily take them off and stuff them in a back pocket of my pants as soon as I get too warm.
- Don't make the mistake of going out fully packed with six layers, two hats, and three socks. You can get overheated that way. Not fun.
- Work with layers, but not too many. Stick to two or three layers.
- Make sure you can take something off during your workout. For example, a fleece vest that you wear at the beginning of the training and can tie around your waist when you get warmer.
- On really cold days, I sometimes wear a short shirt, but with loose sleeves. You can buy those at any sports store. The handy thing is that you can easily pull them down when you no longer need that warmth.
- I personally don't like training with a hat. Your head gets warm, starts to sweat, and that starts to itch for me. Once your ears are warm, your whole head is warm too, so work with bands.
- Oh yes, lastly: make sure you are visible. In winter, it gets dark quickly, so buy an arm band with blinking lights or check out the new collection from Nike. They have sportswear with lots of reflective stripes on the sleeves and legs. Super handy and also stylish.
