9 LESSONS WE LEARNED FROM NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
We are back. The suitcases are unpacked and the showpieces are on their way to the dry cleaner. Luckily, we have the jet lag and these unforgettable life lessons that remind us of New York Fashion Week.
1. Unreal is the word
Unreal is the new ‘epic’, which was previously more known as ‘obsessed’ and in the prehistoric times of fashion was also referred to as ‘I die’. Forget that; unreal is the word.
2. Black lips
Totally you from it, I mean you from it. Just look at the DKNY show or the Dior campaign and you want it. In New York, I also saw ordinary mortals walking around with it and I must say: you get used to it, you get used to it.
3. High socks are a must buy
Seen at the Tommy Hilfiger show (check here our video of the show, too fun if I say so myself) and also at DKNY. One takes an ultra-short skirt (or shorts for my part, as long as it's ridiculously short) and styles it off with a high, woolen sock.
4. Cities are the inspiration
Jeremy Scott based his collection on New York, Paris, and Los Angeles and Victoria Beckham's makeup line for Estée Lauder (more on that later) also has four looks: those of London, New York, LA, and Paris.
5. André Leon Talley is back
Well, back, back... He suddenly walked around at the Oscar de la Renta show. Complete with a camera crew that is apparently making a documentary about him. And the man has gotten thick. Beyond, pardon, I mean: unreal just.
6. Your hair really looks bad in New York
We tried again (just like here), but really, New York is hell for your hair. New Yorkers say it's due to a lack of calcium in the water. I say it's due to too much calcium, just look when you order a glass of tap water, it's almost milk, so white it is. Anyway. New York and hair: not a good match.
Beyond, pardon, I mean: unreal just.
7. New York is the best diet
Look, that does make you cheerful appearance-wise. What it is, is what it is, but everyone I know has less appetite in New York. Is it the hustle, the heat, the stimuli, or is it the ten kilometers you walk with a smile in a day?
8. Able is the new ish
So no more: ‘I'll see you around five-ish’, but for example: ‘Is it walkable/drinkable/eatable/styleable/etc.’. You can also make a half-Dutch, half-American variant of it. ‘Is it loopable?’ for example.
9. Hoodies are on
Lacoste traded the neat collar for a cool hoodie and Tommy also had hoodies you want to live in.
You are caught up again. Next week the catch from London.
