A FEW EXTRA PILLS TO GET THROUGH WINTER

It's really getting cold now and your body could use some extra help. A nice warm sweater and a hat on your head indeed, but vitamins and minerals could also use a bit more this season. You can feel quite sluggish, cold, and a little grumpy. Of course, you can get a lot from food (even better!), but an extra supplement now and then doesn't hurt, especially when it's so bitterly cold. The four pills I take daily are these, and they work great for me, I can tell you.

Vitamine D3

I gulp down a few drops every morning. Is there no sun? Then we get it from the drops. Sun makes you happy and vitamin D3 is in the sun, so that's an easy one. It's also important for strong bones and teeth and against your morning mood.

Magnesium

This jar is a staple in my bathroom. Especially if you exercise a lot, this is a very good muscle recovery aid. Take this supplement in the evening, and you'll sleep wonderfully on it.

Omega 3

Fish oil contains fatty acids that your body really needs every day. Omega 3 is also found in flaxseed, walnuts, and green leafy vegetables, but I also take a fish oil capsule every morning for my optimal daily dose.

Omega is a healthy type of fat and it keeps blood sugar levels stable (which means fewer cravings for sweets and you stay full longer). Fish oil also helps with fat burning in the muscles. Just so you know.

A multivitamin pill

I have always been an advocate of multivitamins. Actually, this is good for the whole year, but in winter it's extra important. Even if you eat very healthily, it's good to supplement any deficiencies in your body and build a reserve. So if you eat a bit less well one day, you still get the right amounts of vitamins and minerals. Not all multis are the same, so check the packaging carefully for what's in it. It's important that the packaging states that it's an optimally absorbable multi. Store brands may be the cheapest, but go for quality.
