A chat with Zac Posen

An exclusive lunch with Zac Posen, Demi Moore, and a handful of his closest friends. When that is offered to you, your ears will definitely perk up. It happened to our Marie-Claire.

While Hollywood was gearing up for the Oscars on Sunday, the trendy Ennis House opened its doors for the first time for a special event on Thursday. Demi Moore invited Zac's good friends and a handful of press (including me) to a lunch party in honor of his new makeup collection for M.A.C Cosmetics. I didn't have to think long about that.

The building is gi-gantic. Zac's love for architecture and art is visible everywhere. The beauty and the almost minimalist, stylized concrete block walls are characteristic of the house from 1924. The wooden ceilings and the stained glass windows overlooking the Japanese gardens make it cozy. That he got the chance to invite his best friends from LA here to showcase his makeup line is a great honor.

After fifteen years of collaborating with M.A.C Cosmetics, which always provided the makeup for his shows, it was finally time for his own line. Why now? He simply wasn't ready before. The fame of the 35-year-old New Yorker has significantly increased in recent years. Especially through his role as a judge on the show Project Runway, he realized it was time for an accessible, red carpet-inspired makeup line.

“Women need to use their own power. I believe you can become anything you want,” he says. Not for nothing has he been dressing the most successful and powerful Hollywood stars on the red carpet for years. And according to him, that power is in all of us. Sometimes we just need to bring out our inner femme fatale. Which can be done with a nice bit of makeup.

He is most proud of the orange lipstick ‘Darling Cementine’. A matte stick that you can enhance by wearing the second lipstick ‘Sheer Madness’ over it. A matte moisturizer – not to be confused with a lip gloss, because Mr. Posen is not a fan of that.

The charming designer is very aware of the social media era. He complements his ‘artist's box’ with a rouge that you can mix and a mattifying powder, both HD-ready, making everyone who uses it ready for a selfie. Super handy.

During lunch, Demi Moore wears a long black skirt with a cropped top, which shows off her abs incredibly well; of course, by Zac Posen. Her three daughters

Rumer, Scout, and Talullah have also put on their Posen couture dresses. The glasses are filled and on the plates is a delicious honey chicken (completely organic, of course, it is Hollywood after all). For dessert, we are served a ‘grandmother's pie’ with nuts and filled with mascarpone. The thing is divine and definitely inspired by the personal cookbook that Zac wants to release in the fall of 2017. That man is also a jack of all trades. He also says he wants to establish a Zac Posen universe and honestly: he is already well on his way. Although we want to get to know him better in Europe, so a few more points of sale in the Netherlands would really help. But first, we all run to the M.A.C store for the limited makeup line, because red carpet or not, we all need to be selfie-ready, right?
