A RENDEZ-VOUS IN PARIS

With top hairstylist Ilham Mestour

Just a nice throwback on a Tuesday evening. Back to the city of romance where I unfortunately wasn't for romance, but for Fashion Week, two weeks ago. Which might actually be even more fun, right? At the invitation of Keune I got to wander backstage at a number of shows and see how the Global Creative Artistic Director (nice title, huh) Ilham Mestour worked her hair magic together with the rest of her team. After my experiences in New York, I must admit that I've never seen anyone so chill and laidback working backstage. And especially with so much joy. Her cheerfulness is contagious.

It all started at Peet Dullaert where the models got a bunch of 80’s inspired curls through tightly braided braids, some fixing spray, and volumizing powder. With a little braid as a surprise at the back. Nice and playful, and wonderful in combination with the androgynous look of Peet's models.

“Still a bit of romance in Paris”

The second show was by Colombian Esteban Cortazar and the look that Ilham set up here is something I would want every day. A low, casual bun. First a bit of sea salt spray to prep the hair, then a tight low ponytail with a middle part where some volumizing powder was added. And then came Ilham's trick for the perfect bun: take a piece of elastic about 20 centimeters long. First, use part of it to secure the ponytail well, and then wrap the rest of the elastic around your ponytail into a bun. I haven't quite mastered it yet, but you probably have a sister/friend/colleague who can help you with this.

And finally, there was Mira Mikati. Honestly? I didn't know the brand yet, but I fell head over heels in love. Ha. Still a bit of romance in Paris. The look that Ilham wanted to create here was natural. Nothing over the top, just looks that you and I can easily walk around in our daily lives. Loose with a bit of blend gloss spray or a bun: I love it.

A tip from me: if you, like me, suffer from a lack of volume? The volumizing powder from Keune is really your new best friend. But if it were possible, I would prefer Ilham to give me the perfect haircut every morning. Ugh. A girl can dream…
