YOU JUST HAVE TO READ THIS
It makes you happy
The Sinterklaas period is my favorite. And not just mine. And that while I complain that I am so busy and that I therefore have too little time to buy gifts and write poems. Luxury problems, of course. My children made their wish list a month ago and recite the list of what they want every day. The cruise ship (they say kwoes) from Playmobil, the sick baby doll that you can fix, a K3 pajama, and actually also the fairy tale castle from Playmobil, ‘because you can get married there, right? With princesses.”
I keep trying to tell them that they should consider that Sinterklaas might not be able to buy all the gifts for them and that it is quite special to be so spoiled. There are 421,000 children in the Netherlands whose parents do not have money for a bag full of gifts. And that while our living rooms (at least mine) are overflowing with puzzles, costumes, and clay crafts.
“even a designer bag can't compete with that”
I think we need to correct that skewed ratio. How sad is it if a child can't go to school on December 6 with a newly received gift? That's why I support Actie Pepernoot (from the National Fund for Child Aid and with help from the Friends Lottery), which aims to give 60,000 children in the Netherlands a real gift evening through donations.
May I ask you to www.actiepepernoot.nl go? And then make a small (or large) donation? Because a happy face of a child on a magical Sinterklaas evening, even a designer bag can't compete with that.
