Gelderlandplein is where you need to be now
“Jet, are you coming to Gelderlandplein with me?”
“Uh May, isn't that just a little bit 50 plus?”
“Ha, I'll show you that sometime.”
Oasis of peace
May and I left in the Renault to Amstelveen and zoomed down under Gelderlandplein for a parking spot. We were there around ten o'clock. People, go to this shopping center early in the morning during the week, because there really isn't a soul and you have every store to yourself.
When I was little
I used to go to Gelderlandplein often, shopping with my grandma at Albert Heijn XL and then we would buy a bag of candy at Jamin. I suddenly felt a bit homesick for her. I was amazed because in my memory there were only those two stores and a coffee shop where old ladies poked at a cake, but this was a whole different ball game, let me tell you.
The stores
I became a bit hysterical because it was very quiet and I only saw nice stores, so I wanted to look everywhere. Where exactly?
Sissy-Boy
Maybe the best store ever. They sell clothes, but also dishes, home accessories, cushions, blankets, lots of writing supplies and paper, cards, trinkets: everything. Here you can perfectly shop for someone's birthday, but I also can't resist the dishes. Off we go, a few glasses came home with me.
PAUW
May is a big fan of this store. For the last few months, she has been a regular there shopping for clothes for Eva Jinek for the show Jinek. That was an incredibly dangerous job because it took her a lot of effort not to check out something for herself every time. I understand it. It's a candy store with the most beautiful clothes from Marni, Dries Van Noten, and Joseph. We tried on an outfit and immediately shot a Look of the Day.
HEMA
Well, here I already wrote about how much of a fan I am of this store.
Marqt
Just let me loose here for an hour. What a wonderful supermarket this is, with an extensive fish department and a butcher shop. I am against ready-made meals, but at Marqt I still buy them (on busy days). They come straight from their own kitchen that same day. Everything is presented so tastefully! I drown in the cheese department, but still choose a juice. May stocks up for dinner with vongole and pizza margarita. Seems like a super combo to me.
Petit Bateau
I was a bit bummed that I don't (yet) have kids myself because I would have checked out a lot. Luckily, May-Britt did it for me this time: her three little girls are all ready for summer.
Then we also walked past Rivièra Maison, Mango, Costes, Huize van Wely: all very nice as you can hear. And in the meantime, you also come across all sorts of fun art. That Gelderlandplein is really mega mega pimped and I am going to come here a lot more often to shop. Whether it's for clothes, a gift, or groceries for the fridge.
