BARBECUE SAUCE WITHOUT SUGAR

“Attention! Almost all barbecue sauces contain insane amounts of sugar. A total of an average of seven sugar cubes per ready-made bottle.” That is what the internet is shouting today on various sites. Well, it comes from a jar, right? And much of what is ready-made in a bottle or in packages is also accompanied by sweeteners. But good, I have been trying for a while to get everyone to go into the kitchen instead of choosing the easy way out. So here I try it again: a very tasty fresh sauce for your roasted sausages or steamed salmon. Here you go!

Cucumber raita

You will need:

1 cucumber

a bucket of Turkish yogurt

1 teaspoon of cumin powder

1 lemon

a pinch of chives

Here’s how to make it

Grate the cucumber coarsely and let it drain for a quarter of an hour in a colander, because a lot of juice comes off (which is actually nice to drink).

Then whip 5 heaping tablespoons of Turkish yogurt, along with the pepper, salt, and cumin powder. Add the grated cucumber and fold it together.

For those who like it, add a small squeeze of lemon juice and some finely chopped (or snipped) chives. I personally find it best served cold (from the fridge).

And if you have some cucumber left, you can just use that for your gin and tonic?
