Happy & Healthy
Breakfasting with ice cream
Throw your pack of oatmeal in the trash. Banish your peanut butter sandwiches and let your yogurt stay in the fridge from now on. If you really want to be healthy, you should have ice for breakfast, even in winter.
Professor Yoshiko Koga from Tokyo Kyorin University in Japan concluded after conducting various tests that starting the day with ice has positive effects on brain function. Koga did the same kind of tests, replacing the ice with a glass of cold water. The result was slightly less clear, but here too the test subjects became more alert. Besides the fact that the test subjects became more alert, it also improved mental performance. Not entirely unimportant; it would also reduce mental irritation, perfect for the morning grumps among us.
“Brrr… always cold”
Now I have to disappoint many. Because unfortunately, this does not mean we can indulge with our friends from Ben & Jerry’s (sorry Kiek, I heard you already let out a little cheer), but we can indulge with a slightly healthier variant. I will once again prove to you that healthy can also be very tasty. Start your day with this banana ice cream that you can vary until you drop. And how delicious it is!
I am, how could it be otherwise, going for a variant with lots of cinnamon, chopped almonds, and dark chocolate. But also try replacing the toppings with grated coconut, blueberries, and raw cashews.
What you need for two large servings:
– 4 frozen bananas
– 2 tablespoons almond milk
– 1 tablespoon almond paste or peanut butter
– 1 tsp cinnamon
– 1 tbsp shaved dark chocolate
– 1 tbsp chopped almonds
Put the bananas, along with the almond milk, the paste, and the cinnamon in the blender. Mix until everything is well combined, but not too long, because the longer you mix, the thinner the mixture becomes. Divide the ice cream into two bowls and sprinkle it with the dark chocolate and chopped almonds. Serve with gloves on. Brrr… always cold
