Carolien's fast lane life
Yes, another fresh weekday diary from our Carolien. Because you know: she never sits still…
There's nothing I enjoy more than starting my day with some Instagram feeds: which recipe has Rens Kroes highlighted this time, at which beautiful location has Lizzy van der Ligt settled, and what amazing outfit has The Blonde Salad pulled out of her high hat? When I was scrolling unsuspectingly last week, my eye immediately caught a photo of Victoria Koblenko wearing a shawl from Setting the Mood that made my heart race... A beautiful nude color and also made from vegetable-tanned leather. Super responsible, then. When I ordered it online, I also found out that this shawl has not undergone a dye bath and the color only gets more beautiful through contact with your skin and the sun. So this shawl is on the list next to my Chanel bag as an heirloom for my future children.
Something you can never have enough of is jeans. By now, I have all the variants in my closet: skinny, boyfriend, high waist, and flared. I still remember when Blue Blood made its splash that I would check out their latest models in the store every month. I still have a pair from them in which I auditioned a few times and got the role, so this now functions as “my lucky pair of jeans.” Last week, I was happily visiting my friends from Maison PR when I was treated to a beautiful pair of jeans from the brand NYDJ. Gigantically hot in America and they are known for their perfect fit. A lovely bonus: there’s stretch in them, so after a visit to Ladurée, you don’t immediately have to put your button on the ‘food hook.’ The Farah Flared model was my favorite.
By now, I have been a regular customer at Delete Waxing for years. I still remember lying wide-legged on the bench for the first time, looking into the eyes of my ‘Wax Angel’ (sounds very sweet for someone who is going to hurt you quite a bit) and praying for a good outcome. But such a Brazilian Wax was really 100% easier than I expected! Since then, I’m a fan and a few friends who were already anxious at the word “Brazilian” are now also regular visitors to the salon. With multiple branches in Amsterdam, you can’t ignore them anymore, and on Friday, a new location was added to the list on the Zuidas. Lisa Michels opened the salon festively and then there was an extensive toast with champagne. For all the ladies (and gentlemen) working on the Zuidas who have an hour to spare: it’s definitely worth a visit!
Oooh guys, I find this so exciting: Bouillabaisse is on Lowlands this year! On Friday, August 19, we will blow the roof off with our performance “B.S. I love you” in the JULIET tent. The performance is almost a 30-minute music video about the life and suffering of media phenomenon Britney Spears. It’s always such a party to perform this show, especially because everyone goes wild when ‘Work Bitch’ blasts through the speakers. So if you managed to get a ticket for Lowlands, don’t forget to take a look in the JULIET tent on Friday for a 30-minute ’trip’ on a good dose of Britney. You won’t regret it!
People know by now: if an invite comes my way that’s all about good food, I will do everything I can to be there. But when I recently walked off the set and missed a mega delicious sushi dinner from Momo on a boat, I could have cried. Luckily, I got a second chance this week at Restaurant 5&33 for a beautiful Italian Shared Dining menu. Now I really love sharing, and Jon has been so trained over the years that when the menu arrives, he always looks my way so I can choose which two dishes we will order to share. But with this concept, you fortunately get a variety of dishes to share with the whole table: heaven for me! My favorites of the evening were the Burrata and these delicious asparagus with Serrano ham.
